Tuning the Ecoboost
Hi guys
I'd like to custom tune my 2014 ecoboost right away and am wondering who to go with for an 87 tune. I Don't really tow. Just would like something that's fast fun to drive and shifts good. Some added mpg on the highway would be cool too. So who should I go with for an 87 custom tune?

Your gonna get a thumbs up from every tune runner. Youve gotta soul search and figure out what you want from your truck then do the research as to what tuner will meet your needs. I can vouch that 5* has a fantastic tow and mellow daily driver tune. And ssi is a great aggressive daily driver tune. The ssi tow tune is very smooth but aggressive in the throttle tip in compared to stock or 5*. Whatever tuner you go with just make sure to datalog to make sure its running safe. Every truck is different and take tunes differently.
Also the more agressive you go the more aggressive you need to be with maintanance. Change oil no more than 5k and clean map the same time at minimum. The plugs could be changed every 20k and gapped at max of .30. Once a year check and clean cac of crap. Any tuner worth a damn will recomend this and if they dont walk away.
And as always there is nothing wrong with the stock tuning and tuning wont cure any problem in the stock tune.

There are passionate supporters and detractors for each company .as you have seen in this thread. Any ct supported tuner is going to wow you, just some more than others. I've used mot, 5 star, ssi etc and they are all good. Like others above I have my favorite - ssi. Their performance tune was faster than the others and got me a smidge better mpg.
You can buy an sct tuner from any of the tuners I mentioned with custom tuners and buy one or two from a competitor ans see what moves you. Lol

I would love to run a 93 tune, but the closest place to get 93 is an hour away so that won't happen. And 91 is 40 cents a liter more then 87 in my town so that's out of the question too. I have an sct x3 from my 5.0 And have ran mpt and 5* on it both were great. I am running the canned sct tune right now and the shifting is terrible imo.

^ I started with the SCT tune. Same feelings here. I then went to a custom tune. World of difference! I have a couple custom tunes. They're all great in their own way and you can't go wrong with any of them. I'm partial to 5* though. I do run 91 tunes though since I use pure gas.
