Default Truck Bed Storage

Don't flame me yet for not using the search!

I'm an oil field guy that spends a few a weeks at a time on the job site away from home, and I have to transport a lot of crap with me. My job doesn't require a ton of tools, but I have enough stuff where the underside of my rear seats (Scab) no longer fits the bill. I also have a soft, rolling tonneau cover.

Here's what I want: A locking, relatively weather proof storage solution that I can mount or stabilize to the side of the truck bed right by the tailgate. The rolling cover has turned me off to the idea of an under the rail chest that would mount at the front of my bed because of the time I would have to spend to unroll the tonneau every time I wanted to access it, get what I need, roll it back and secure the velcro on the sides.

What can you suggest? If you have a brand that is reputable or even a specific product that would really help! I also have a Ford drop in liner if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Do a google search for "A locking, relatively weather proof storage solution that I can mount or stabilize to the side of the truck bed right by the tailgate" ... there are products that do this exact very thing that swing out at the tailgate. I don't know the name but you could've found it quicker than posting a thread.

Opinions on how they work is a little different. I saw one at an auto-show once and thought it was pretty cool.

And I thought my plea for a lack of flaming would have helped. I have seen those products (already, via a Google search), but are quite small in size and would not hold all of the items I need it to. Maybe I should have said that I need something reasonably sized. In any case, also, when I said mounts to the side, I didn't mean literally TO the side, but can be mounted AT the side. I'm thinking of some type of mid sized tool chest possibly, and I hoped that I could get some positive reviews from members on something like that.

Thanks for the input though

I have a composite box from Sears that has 2 drawers and can be locked. I set it just inside the tailgate on one side and secure it in place with heavy bungys. It is handy to get to and handy to remove. Could be locked in place with a cable. You can purchase composite boxes at Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and many other stores.

I went this route, but it may not be quite what you want. $125 each at a local farm/ranch store.

or you can get a rolling bed, that bolts to your truck box and slide's out of the back and can be locked in place at intervals, and you can bolt your chest to the front of it leaving your tonneau on and the back half of the box free to put more stuff in.....it slides out past your tail gate and I seen stacy on Gearz, install one and they put a motor on the end of it so its good for all kinds of weight

just saying

This product looks like it would fit my needs, but one of the reviews for it on amazon says it will not fit a 2010 F150 because of the curvature of the box. Seems unlikely to me though that it wouldn't be designed to fit the best selling truck in the world. Anyone have it? Does it fit?

I powdercoated and bolted a 3" x 3" andle iron along the bed rail of my F250 for my cargo and side "pork chop" boxes over the wheel well type.

I then welded two vertical straps off the rail steel to support the pork chop box and then bolted through each box. The boxes were fully supported, no holes in the bed floor and easy unbolting to remove for large loads, ATV, etc.

I'd probably do a swivel on them now if I were to do it again.

Thiose "pork chop" style boxes don't hold much.
