Default Transmission Delay Shift

2011 XLT 85k miles transmission delay going into gear. After stopping, when I accelerate the truck will not move but suddenly does a very hard shift into gear. It does this sometimes in reverse. At one point it had erratic shifting and I had to put it in low to get the truck home. When I reverse, I hear some strange noise underneath. I change the fluid and filter and did see some small metal in the pan - larger than I would expect. It there anything I should try before pulling the transmission and replacing? Thanks

You need to get Forscan and pull codes.

Hundred to one you have a slew of trans codes, but we'd like to know those before moving forward.

I ran for scan yesterday and no trans codes. I had disconnected the battery last week to work on the truck. would that have erased the codes? Only code showed up was BCM B10D7 but no trans codes.

Your metal comment is not good. That would push me out of DIY and into a trans shop for analysis.
Disconnecting the battery would have reset the KAM, so your shifting would likely change. But, yours sounds like real issues. Are you sure the oil level is correct? It's hard to verify, needs to be done with the engine running and the trans at 190+ deg.

Thanks for the attachment. I did go back and check the levels and it was low. I added with the engine hot and running and got it to the right levels. Truck ran good for about 15min and when I accelerated from a stop light it barely moved then hard shifted into gear. I can hear clanging noise below. It ran smooth again to get it home. I think I will let the professionals do a diagnostic. Would you recommend the dealer or look for another shop?

reliable 3rd party over dealer every day of the week beings you're outside of warranty.

I would check the fluid again. It improved when you topped it up. Then got worse again. Probably had air in the system somewhere. Check it again. Also, do you have any leaks?

There is a sleeve that connects the valve body to the trans that cracks. https://www.transmissionpartsdistrib...anstec-fits-02

I would probably buy the Ford one, but it would look the same. It causes weird symptoms like that.
