Default Transfer case Mercon LV

2013 F150 SCrew 4x4 Lariat with 4a

Just changed my fluid tonight.
Sticker says Mercon LV.

Not sure when the case of Mercon LV was made though. Did they add anything to the more recent production of fluid?

Bottles I have say nothing about transfer case. Do the new bottles?

They do not say transfer case because this is what they use, and recommend, now instead of the Mercon.

no actually.

LV is the spec. As per my owner’s manual and the sticker.

The XL12 was discontinued

Ok then. I just bought 2 quarts at the dealer 2 weeks ago (XL12). Surprised they didn't say anything about using LV

Depends on your transfer case. There are actually two different cases. The BorgWarner 4A case needs Mercon LV or you risk blowing it up. If it needs LV it will say so on the case or if you have 4A. I wouldn't risk XL-12 in the 4A case.

I'm gonna take it back. My trans blew up so its all coming out in the next week or so. I will see what it says on the case while its out.

If you have a 4A position on your transfer case selector, LV is the correct fluid. If you don't have a 4A position XL-12 is fine, and was originally the specified fluid, but I think Ford recently just superseded that and spec'd LV across the board. If you put XL-12 in a non-4A case, you're still golden.
