Wow three in row with the same symptons, I don't feel quite as bad now. I know a ford dealer lead tech up in PA, since we are heading up that way I might have him look at it. Also made an appt. for Jan 6th at my dealer down here. Hopefully we can get this sorted out.

Keep us posted on this issue as I am noticing the same thing and have mentioned it to the dealer twice and they claim that they can't "duplicate the problem". It happens going up a hill at 25-35 mph and it sounds just like a manual transmission about to stall out. It is usually accompanied by a faint rattling sound coming from beneath the center of the floorboard (trans/torque converter area). I have had the reflash for the 1-2 harsh upshift and that has remedied the shifting but not this issue. I have 24,000 miles on my 2009 since May of this year so it is not a break-in issue.

Default Shifting issue finally resolved?

Hey fellas-
Since I'm nearing 5000 miles, I've been paying closer attention to the shifting of my truck, and low and behold, at 4,872 miles, the hard 1-2 shift seems to have disappeared!

I noticed it immediately at a stop light; I didn't get the usual 'stumble' from 1st to 2nd. Then, I paid particular attention to the next 7 or 8 stop lights that I had to stop at. I got the same smooth 1-2 shift after moving forward.

Next, I thought to myself to check the 'shudder' that you were describing when going up an incline. After keeping it as the same speed (~40mph) while going up an incline, it did shift down, then back up, rather quickly, but I didn't notice the usual 'shudder'.

If this keeps up, I will be ecstatic, since this was the ONLY issue I had with mine!!!!

It happens at about 1394RPM. The dealer has told me that it is an unbalanced torque convertor. the part is on order but they don't know when it will be in. my truck is now sitting at the dealership.

Hmm, my 09 4.6 3V 6spd 3.55 R has a rattle noise under similar conditions. It's always at ~ 1,000 RPM when advancing from a no load situation to a slightly increasing load condition like when beginning to go up a hill under steady throttle. It only lasts for a fraction of a second before it down shifts then all is normal. I'm planning on taking it in as soon as the dealer gets the TBC to install - it's been on order for nearly a month. Anybody have to wait this long for a TBC? Sorry, I know this is moderate thread drift. Just hoping it's not a sign of how my dealer will respond to me.

My 2010 lariat with only 700 miles on it did this exact same thing going up steep incline that is only seconds out of our parking lot at work. I thought it was just me, but it has done it a few times since I have had the truck. I hate to take the truck in after only 4 weeks of having it for something that may clear up in time. What is this 5000 mile transmission reset? Should I call dealer or wait?

Rattleing under load sounds like a knock problem to me....... I dont have it never did...... the only thing I hear is the normal valves at a light throttle due to the engine not producing much noise so this could be what your hearing. Its a tick tick tick noise that is faint but there due to well the engine being 1000- 1500 rpms the engine is at almost idle speed so you can hear the valves on my engine. IMO

I've noticed the symptom a few times in the 1000 miles I put on it. It does seem like it shifts from 1st to 2nd too soon, and then sputters to get moving in 2nd. It won't help my fuel economy, but I've found myself giving it more gas so it doesn't do it. I guess that's what Ford had in mind when the transmission "learns how you drive"...

I hope that takes care of the problem for you, keep us posted. I had a reflash done on Tue, still acts up. I don't think trans-reflash is the cure.
