Default Trans fluid question

I dropped the pan, changed the filter and added 7 qts of mercon sp, per fordtechmagoo or whatever’s YouTube video in adjusting the fluid level for 6r60s and 6r80s. Come to find out 6r60 takes sp and the 80 lv. I think the only transmissions theses fluids mix with are some of the 6.0 torque shifts. True?

What should I do? drop the pan again tomorrow and get some out and replace with lv? Nothing? Complete flush at the ford dealer for 350? It’s been shifting a little less harsh, but downshifts more gears and more readily. I had one shift that was I think the 1-2 shift hit hard unexpectedly when I changed throttle. Only 20 miles since I’ve done this. Did not refresh the kam. 105k miles on trans looks like the first time it’s been into. Help!
Old fluid

I know Ford said it was ok to put LV in the older transmissions and mixing was fine. But with the newer transmissions I don't know for sure... The LV is fully synthetic and low viscosity (LV) with a different additive pack compared to the SP. I don't know what exactly the difference is, but the LV was designed to replace and be better than the SP. For a transmission designed for the LV I would probably cough up the money to get it out of there unless someone says different.

Don't know if this will help but Valvoline specs the same of their fluid for both Ford specs. MaxLife ATF for both SP and LV. Guide link below.

Did your "come to find out" come from a Ford Service manual or a different magoo-type channel? Might be an either/or spec in the Ford manual, for different types of use.

I kind of like that Makuloco guy's videos. I turn the speed up to 1.5 and he sounds like a genius.

That might just mean that valvolines is probably making their fluid to the LV standard. LV was designed to be better and replace the SP fluid and can be used in transmissions that call for SP. I am assuming valvoline just makes LV standard and doesn’t really care about the sp anymore.

Seems to fit the dates in the guide. Makes sense. You're probably still ahead of many people, who never change the fluid. New old spec. versus old new spec.

I think I will do some more research on it but most likely will drop the pan again tomorrow and R&R another 7 qts. Unless something catastrophic was known to happen I can’t justify paying the dealer 350 to get it all out. It will cost me 70 bucks and with that 25% of the fluid in the trans will still be the sp. concerned the clutch packs will not like the sp. I have read several bulletins contradicting themselves from ford. It seems better, but I don’t feel good about it. Could be worse, just a minor speed bump in the grand scheme.

if you have another dealer close by I would check their price. It cost me $150 for a tranny flush. Total was under $400 when I got oil change, tires rotated and balanced, pan drop and filter replaced, and finally trans flushed.

this may be true but it is certainly interesting to me because I know there Several ford transmissions that’s for sure can not take LV

I’ll check, but 150 doesn’t even buy the fluid. Plus it needs to be heated and hooked up to their machine. May have been part of that package you got

i like his videos too and I’m not mad at him I just assumed after I watched the 6r80 pan drop video that the next video he referred to top it off would be on that same f150 he was working on. He made a big point to only get sp and I think he is knowledgeable so I did with out checking anything else. Got about 4 qts in and thought about it and decided it was too late to stop then. Checked on google when I got done and sure enough...
