tranny shift issue PLUS speedometer going haywire
I have owned this 2011 5.0L 4x4 XLT for 2 months now. 160K miles on the odometer. It has been running and operating smoothly as far as I can tell, until today. I drove it for some errands for about 20 minutes, one stop for about 10 minutes at Walmart, one stop for 3 or 4 minutes at another store, then 15 minute drive to my wife's work where I dropped off something, left the truck running while I did it (30 seconds or so), and when I got back in to return home, I backed out of my parking space, and when I put it in drive (admittedly, I did not come to a complete stop backward first, which I know is bad for it), it lurched, then gave up, then the speedometer when up to like 90mph, then back down, then it went into 1st gear, but very little power. I limped into a nearby parking lot and shut it off thinking computer problems. I started it back up and it showed a wrench symbol. It was still weak. I babied the throttle until I got it up to speed. The tranny was slipping in and out of gear. It barely made it up a shallow hill to the traffic light, which was thankfully green - out onto the hyw where I got in the shoulder lane with my hazards on, and I slowly got it up to 60mph. All the while, the speedometer was dancing around like a hiphop star. At one point, I was stepping on the gas to go up a hill and the engine would not rev!!! It was like my gas peddle was attached to nothing! A few seconds later it "re-engaged", and I made it home. What the hell is wrong with this thing? Where do I take it? Dealer? Local mechanic? Colman Taylor Transmission shop? Autozone to have the codes read?
Update: Service manager says new transmission. Funny... when I drove it to the Ford dealership about (40 miles, and I stopped in the middle for a sammich), it did fine, and the wrench didn't come on. I will turn a wrench on a lot of things. The tranny is not one of them. I have to trust he knows what he's talking about, and isn't trying to take advantage.
BUT! Look on the bright side... I will have a brand new updated transmission with a full 3 year warranty after this... and $8800 lighter in the pockets.

I've posted about the lead frame as a DIY recently. I'm thinking the Ford dealer wouldn't recommend this fix as they want to sell a rebuild. Id find an independent shop if you are not capable of this DIY and only use a Ford lead frame.
Edited to add I wouldn't sink that kind of money in a 2011 5.0 model with the potential the early 5.0s have for tuliped intake valves.
