Trailer Sway Control Problems
Hmmm! You may want to read pages 279-284 of your manual! Talks about turning the three (or four depending on how you look at trailer sway control and roll stability control) on and off and how to enable and disable the features. The manual says that it defaults to on. Mine defaults to on.
"When properly equipped, trailer sway control will use the vehicles advance trac with rsc system to detect and help reduce trailer sway by applying brake force at individual wheels and if necessary by reducing engine power. During trailer sway control events stability control light in the instrument cluster will flash momentarily. The message center will also display trailer sway reduce speed.
On page 10 the symbol is for the stability control system . The whole systems is called AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control)
The roll stability control uses a yaw sensor inside the center console to detect the yaw of the truck and brakes the truck to counteract the yaw motion. This is the same device that controls the trailer sway and trailer brakes when the trailer is connected if you have the factory trailer brake controller.
Also read page 34 under the instrument cluster section about trailer sway
So, it has a lot to do with what you are talking about!

Here is my problem. The trailer sway is a big thing for ford trucks, and since its not working the way it was designed then it leeds me to believe that its all a joke. I don't know about some of you but i but my truck to tow and with all the new features to be better and safer then most trucks
That really sucks that it isn't working for you! I know it works for me. I think you need to call Ford tech support and get it fixed. The programing has to work. Must be another problem. It's just a bunch of ones and zeros in that box and buttons and switches. Not really all that complicated. Why can't they reflash with a 2010 program? Anyway I was just trying to help but I guess that didn't work so you'll have to find someone smarter than I!! Good luck with the truck!
1. You have a truck that is under warranty.
2. The truck, or more specifically the computer, has a verifiable problem.
3. This particular problem seems to be rare.
4. You're being told that they won't be able to fix it for months, or even years.
If it were me, I'd be telling them to replace the computer. If they don't have a fix for the problem now, the whole thing needs to be replaced. Plain and simple.
I have tried to work with the deal about just getting for to buy it back and let me get a new truck but they wont do a thing to help me. One guy even told me just to suck it up and just turn it on every time i need it. Does anyone have a tech phone number for ford so i might be able to handle it myself. I also got the dealer to put everything in writing what they found and the solution of waiting for a software update.
per manual it SHOULD default to on everytime your ingnition is turned to the run position, if it does not then its defective. Threaten lemon get the number of a lawyer and see what they do. It should work as designed no more no less. Its BS what they are telling you. Oh and it only actually does anything when a trailer is attached and you go over 35mph so its off until you hook up a trailer and go OVER 35mph.

I do not think it does I read that it only operates if either the 4pin or the 7pin is activated like with the TBC. For the life of me I cannot remember where I read that.
