Traction Control
I was driving my truck the other day on a wet road and traction control kicked in and it was scary.
Not only did I feel the brakes engage it also seam to kill power for a brief second. I didn't like that I didn't have control of the truck for that few seconds.
Is this how it's designed?
Can it be tuned to adjust the amount if control it does or turn off completely?

You can turn it off completely with the switch, the owners manual explains how, the only problem with that is it will reset default on when you shut it off and crank it back up. It is designed to keep you from losing control and wrecking by taking control of wheel spin via ABS as well as reducing engine torque via PCM. More or less the truck is doing things a human cannot possibly do in a fraction of a second to save you and the vehicle.
Yeah it may seem a little scary just as the way people reacted when antilock brakes first came out. But it is doing what it is designed for, and no there is no way to fine tune or adjust it as it's all computer controlled.
However, you may be running an older calibration level that might need updating that might smooth out a lot of what your feeling. Only way to know is have it hooked up to IDS, either the dealer or someone with the same system can tell for certain.
I have that system and am Ford factory trained if you wish to see if you have the latest calibration. Your dealer can provide the same service under warranty. Shoot me a pm if you wish to know more.

You can have a vehicle spinning the tires and still be in control of it.
It says in the manual what the differences are between pushing the TC button and turning TC off versus holding it down until it says advancetrac off. Don't remember the differences off the top of my head.
First time my tc kicked it about killed me. I pulled out heavy through a busy, wet intersection, spun and it shut the truck down in the middle of the intersection. After that it gets turned off as soon as I start the truck.

We have a couple different systems at work. I don't think traction control does anything drastic. My truck will not spin on dirt with TC on; and no "noticeable" power is being taken away. It's certainly not killing the engine. The offending system must be the stability control. For when you're not going straight. I prefer to go straight when driving. I turn the stuff off if playing around on dirt roads.
mine got me stuck in the freaking pasture when I had my 2010. didn't know how to turn it off and I was pulling a trailer. I was just about ready to take it back to the dealership. then read up on how to turn it off in low traction situations like I was in.
