My 2013 is my first F150. When I check in the Owner's Manual the only procedure published in there is:

1. Drive the vehicle above 20 mph (32 km/h) for at least two minutes
and then park in a safe location where you can easily get to all four tires
and have access to an air pump.

2. Place the ignition in the off position and keep the key in the ignition.

3. Cycle the ignition to the on position with the engine off.

4. Turn the hazard flashers on then off three times. This must be
accomplished within 10 seconds
.

If the reset mode has been entered successfully, the horn will sound
once, the system indicator will flash and a message is shown in the
information display (if equipped).

I didn't know anything about the ignition on-off/brake pedal method until reading the forum. I have looked in an online 2009 Owner's Manual and it has the ignition/brake method, but doesn't mention the emergency flasher method. I guess the flasher method is only in the most recent model year manuals.

However, now that I know the emergency flasher method only works with tire pressure sensors that are already programmed into the TPMS computer, I probably won't bother with the emergency flasher method anymore.

Here's the video I made to show that the emergency flasher method of putting the TPMS into the learn mode will not allow a new sensor to be trained into the TPMS computer memory.

Using the emergency flasher method lets you retrain your current sensors to their new location when you rotate the tires. This isn't even necessary for most of who run the same pressure front and rear. However, if you have a HD payload truck with different tire pressures front and rear, it's a good idea to do the procedure, and if you haven't put in a new sensor or swapped to a different set of wheels with different sensors, then the emergency flasher method will work fine.

But, if you want to register a new sensor that is not currently logged into your TPMS computer memory, you'll need to put the TPMS into the learn mode using the ignition on-off/brake pedal method.

Default I have the same problem on a 2014 F 150

I've been through all the steps, including the ones that finally worked for the OP. Still no joy. I have 4 new oem sensors in oem takeoff wheels.

I have come to the conclusion that the new sensors are in a deep sleep, as they will not respond using the TPMS 19 tool.

Question to the OP: did you have to bring the sensors out of a deep sleep first before you had success?

I have heard that on new sensors, you have 1 hour to register after they have been aired up the first time, or they go back to deep sleep mode. I have also heard that you can air out the tires, wait 5 - 10 minutes and air them back up to re-activate the sensors - have not been able to verify this.

I think my next step is to ask the dealer to use a more sophisticated tool to wake up the sensors one time, then I can use my TPMS 19 tool and the key cycle / brake pedal method to train the new sensors. Note that I CAN use this procedure successfully on the 4 originally registered sensors (on original set of wheels).

If anyone has additional info, please offer.

Thanks!

Default Thanks for clarifying “Key Procedure” is needed with “New Sensor”

You are absolutely correct!! Thanks for pointing that out!!

I just made a video that shows the difference in the two learn modes. I'll post it up after I get it uploaded.

The "emergency flasher" method seems to only work with the 4 sensors that are currently logged into the TPMS memory.

If you install a new sensor or switch to a different set of wheels (i.e., any or all of the sensors are not currently logged into the TPMS), then you will need to do the "ignition on-off/brake" method.
