Default TPMS already bad....

I had a new set of Michelins put on about 1.5 months ago at NTB. Well the other day my TPMS sensor was showing a fault. So I checked the tires, and they all checked out. So I took my truck back up to NTB, and they informed me my TPMS in my driver front needs replaced, and the TPMS is around $80-90, and I imagine there would be labor also charged. My truck is a 2009, that seems odd to me that a TPMS will only last 3yrs.

Any thoughts?

Odds are they screwed something up when the put the new tires on. I watched them mount my tires not to long ago, if the person doing the install isn't paying attention, they can easily mess the sensor up.

Or buy a brand new OEM set of four from eBay for $99 + free two day shipping.

theres a good chance they broke it, or hit it when they broke the bead of the tire causing it to malfunction down the road. they probably didnt tell you because they are expensive and the mechanic that took the tire off gets **** for it. with these new vehicles and the TPMS systems there is a certain way these tires have to taken off of the rim because of where the TPMS is mounted.

personally i think TPMS are a waste of money and are just flat out dumb.

i doubt youll be able to get them to fix it for free since its a month or so down the road, maybe its not their fault. maybe its just a faulty part. just have them replace it, im sure the FORD dealer will charge you more to have it done than they will.

I just had a new set of tires put on at Discount Tire and they charged me $10 a piece for new sensors plus the valve stems.

They didn't install new sensors, just a rebuild kit that puts a new o-ring on the existing sensor. I told them no way and just had them reinstall the sensors.

Haven't had any problems.

Don't these sensors run on batteries? How long should we expect out of them? Just curious!
