Default Towing mpg?

What kind of mpg's are you guys getting towing around 3000 lbs? I went to the mountains this weekend got 9.8 mpg both ways. My truck only has 2000 miles on it so I hope it gets at least alittle better.

With my 2007 Lariat Supercab 4WD pulling a 5k lb travel trailer I averaged just at or under 9MPG on 300 mile tow trips. With my 2010 Lariat Supercrew 4WD I haven't towed it much yet but it appears to be improved. I'm towing it this weekend for the first real test and will post my results.

I towed my 3500lb boat with 4 adults 350 miles today and the computer was reading 15.5-16 mpg but the computer is always 1-2 high vs. hand calculated. Thats about the same as I got with my 06 STX too.

Just towed a utility trailer with 1500 pounds in it and got almost 15 according to the computer.

Towed a 3500# camper trailer a couple hundred miles just the other day and got 12 mpg. Pretty happy with that.

I just towed a 7500lb trailer from Ohio to Florida and averaged 8.5-9.5 mpg. I have a 2009 screw with the 4.6L and 3.55's.

The biggest thing that kills you when towing isn't necessarily the weight, it's the size. A bass boat or utility trailer simply doesn't catch the wind like a box trailer or RV. It's that huge wall of wind you're forced to push that really hurts when towing, especially the mileage, LOL.

My boat & trailer weigh just over 6100# with the pilothouse on the boat the height of a semi cab. Towed 700 miles over the weekend & averaged 12.5 going, but running into 30 mph head wind on return brought overall down to 10.9 on return.
