Default Torn Boots

So.. I have my truck in the shop to fix a weird noise coming from the front end. The shop first replaced my drive shaft because it was dented.. which it is possible my wife did that when she borrowed it..

Noise didn't go away, took it back and they said the sound is coming from the brake lines rubbing against the heat shield, they have adjusted them and it is gone, which doesn't make sense to me.

I am on my way to pick it up, but they have also told me that my upper control arm ball joint boots are torn, as well as my tie-rod end ball joints, BOTH sides.

He is telling me that the only way that could have happened is if I jumped the truck and I know for a fact I have never jumped the truck. To quote what he said "The only way that could happen is if the front end was fully extended rapidly"... which makes NO sense to me.

What else could have caused those boots to be torn? Could it have been done with the lift was added? If someone disconnected the upper control arm and tie-rod to lower the lower control arm and install the 2" level blocks could they have damaged the boots?

A little annoyed that I'm having such issue with my 3 month old truck with less that 5k miles on it. Apparently "Ford Tough" doesn't include whatever it is I do to it...

I'd be suspect of the shop that installed your lift kit.

I know this sounds dumb, but when the guy said jumping the truck, is that jumping the truck as in boosting the battery with cables, or hitting a ramp and going airborne? I can see the latter doing that (and seriously doubt the OP ever did this.)

I'd also second the motion of the shop that installed the lift kit. Something is not right, and that is the only weak link in the chain.

Wait... you lift and level and do whatever else to the suspension and frame of your truck and you're mad at Ford because something related to what you did broke? I'd be mad at the install shop.

I think the OP was mad because he was accused of jumping the truck....and not with cables...the airborne version.

^^ this.

If it was something I did, I'll totally accept the blame. Which I believe I've shown in my "High Center Whoopsie" thread...

And yes, the airborne version of it... While I do like the Raptor, I recognize that my truck is _not_ the Raptor.

I am going to look at the installer about the ball joints & tie rod ends... though honestly, if they are that rough on it, not sure I'll take it back there.

Coming from someone who installed a level kit recently, it def. was by shop that put your level kit in/on.

Could it be when you high centered your tires dropped really quick on the other side and this was why those boots tore? And could the high center have caused the dented driveshaft?
