FWIW I asked my buddy who has been a mechanic his whole life (25+ years). He told me fill up wherever there is good traffic at the station, and treat the car w/ Techron ever other oil change. Seems good enough to me; he keeps his cars to 200k miles so I'll run w/ what he says.

I run 93, have no clue what gas it is. I get it at one of the fuel perk grocery store gas stations. I save a ton on fuel. This station is always packed so I know the fuel does not sit there long.

I add a bottle and a half of genuine Techron, not Pro Guard, at every oil change.

I worked at a gas/service station when I was just a kid and the owner used Techron and swore by it. It's stuck with me since, never had engine issues on any vehicle I have owned.

Just like engine oil, it's all the same until the manufacturer adds their additive pack. Top tier gas usually has a stronger additive pack.

Higher octane does not equal more power. In fact, it will have less energy than regular gas. High compression engines will benefit from higher octane and run as it should because it prevents detonation (won't ignite). I'm not sure about the EcoBoost but the V8's require regular unleaded (87 octane) and using super will gain you nothing but a lighter wallet. If you have a tuner with a program for super, you will see some gains.

As your friend mentioned, go to a gas station that has high traffic so you'll have the freshest gas. I use tectron once a year but I only put about 8k miles per year on my truck. Even w/o tectron, you're talking about an engine that will last 250k miles instead of 300k miles.

In the end, do what makes you feel good.

Actually the stock computer has strategies for higher octane gas and you will actually see power gains, as has been proven on the dyno.

most bottles of additives say to treat 12-20 gallons. my company fleet mechanics only use Techron but i use SeaFoam in my truck, lawnmowers, 4 wheelers, edger, tiller, blowers and generator when i don't use ethanol free gas.

I use BG44k every 30k or so and Techron the last tank of gas before an oil change. So Techron every OCI and BG44k every 4th I guess.
