It's built out of Steel and it's pretty rugged, not like the aluminum boxes. I can stand on the top of this thing and the top doesn't flex at all and I weigh 210 lbs. This thing is pretty hefty also, it weighs 120 lbs empty compared to an aluminum box that weighs like 45 lbs. I'm more than satisfied with it.

I've got a Weatherguard box and love it. It was on the truck when I bought it and didn't know if I would like it or not. I've mounted a gun rack and made a fishing rod rack for it and it is definitely worth it. Since it is not a low-profile box, it makes the rear view mirror useless for backing up, but that's why there are side mirrors!

Pros of a toolbox:

More lockable space to store valuables (this is important in metro areas where crackheads are more than happy to smash a window to get at stuff.) It isn't uncommon for people to take a crowbar to a toolbox, but it takes more work than punching in a lock or door handle.

Biggest con: Space. A 5.5" bed is barely useful as it is. With a toolbox, it reduces the usable load to almost nothing.

Ok so what is the storage alternative to no tool box? I want max bed space and max storage. I have even breen thinking of cutting the fenders in front of the rear tires to make a custom box that would be schedule from the outside of the bed and painted to match the truck. My other idea is to cut the floorboards out of the back seat and make a box underneath them that would be accessed from inside the cab. I like this idea best but I was just wondering if anyone had experimented with something outside the box and what the result was? Of all the smart folks here certainly someone head done something different?

Max bed usage and max storage would be a Crew Cab with a 8' bed and a tool box in the rear...lol

See my problem is the screw eco does not have the 8' bed as an option (a far as I can tell the ford site won't let me have both options)otherwise thats exactly what I would get. I have a trailer but I dont want to pull it around all the time! I know, I know picky picky...

I prefer the look with the toolbox actually. Although I would go with the low profile version

I'm probably not going to use it as I have used my full box 4 times in the 3 weeks that I have owned the truck. I don't mind the look and like the extra storage but it gets filled with junk and my box space is already limited.
