Default Tire and Wheel Question.

First let me say hello to everyone, I am new to this forum but not to Fords. I have an 09 F150 SCREW FX4 with an 1.5 AS leveling kit and Super spring helper in the rear.

Ok here goes my question piece, I'm in the process of ordering some new tires and rims, and I was wondering with my set up do I need to run +30 or +18 Offset wheels? I am planning to go with Moto Metal 956's in 20 X9 but I'm not sure what offset I should go with. I am also planning on putting Nitto Terra Grapplers 295/60/20s on the MM but am worried about rubbing.

One of the tire guys I talked to said the +30 is recommended for a non lifted truck and +18 for a lifted. I guess my reservation is the 30 is almost a 1/2 inch closer to the strut and with 34's I'm wondering if it will rub when turning hard. The +18 will be farther away from the strut but it will stick out the fender by a 1/2 inch and I wonder if it will rub the fender. Does anyone on here have any experience with these dimensions on an 09 or 10?

I don't have an 09-10 but I do have an 08 that I just put aftermarket rims and tires on. You can see in my signature what I went with. I was also not sure about what to do but with very minor trimming on the lower valance and rear area of the wheel well I made it fit with no problems. Here is a post I made and there are pic's of the upper control arm and the area I trimmed.

Hope this helps.

08, Thanks for the post and the great tutorial. Now that you have had them a few months have you noticed whether they rub anywhere since you trimmed the fender wells? How about on turns? I think those 295/70's equal out to a 34" size tire which is what I am looking at going too so have seen a any difference in your MPGs? Thanks again for all your help.

after the minor trimming I have not noticed any rubbing at all even at full lock. Yeah mpgs have dropped I mostly avg aroumd 13 to 14. Another guy on here has the same wheel and tire setup on a 2wd but he went with a 2.5" leveling kit. He had no rubbing at all.

You mentioned that you had to get new TMPS sensors, why wouldn't your other ones switch over? Do you have the type that goes in the valve stem?

These are 18x9.5's with a +25mm offset with 305's on. Most rims seem to be 9" wide. If this rim were 9" wide it would have a +19mm offset. So if you are going with a 18x9 (or just about any 9) with a +18mm offset the outside edge of the rim/tire combo will end up almost exactly where this one is sitting. A +12mm offset will have them inboard another 6mm (1/4in) which is no big deal and a 0mm offset will get you another 12mm (1/2in) which would be about 3/4" inboard of the wheels/tires pictured. It looks to me if you were to go under zero offset that you would be real close to rubbing all over the place. I can't imagine going narrower and there are a lot of -12mm offset rims out there. If you get some -12mm offset rims be prepared to get yourself some wheel spacers for the front.

sqidd, thanks for the information and peek at your rig. If I went with the +30mm offset wouldn't that put inside a +18 by about a 1/2 or 3/4 inch? The tires I am looking are 34's and by the look of your truck, they should fit; I am just wondering about rubbing if I go with +30.

Yeah, a 30mm offset 9” rim would have them sitting in 12mm (just under ½”).

I doubt you will have any rubbing issues with 295’s. Mine are not close to rubbing and mine are just under 34” (measured in real life), wider (10mm) and I don’t have any sort of leveling kit.

No I don't have the valve stem sensors. Mine are bands that go on the inside of the rims. I didn't use my old ones because I ordered my wheels and tires from a company out of state and they came mounted and balanced. I did not want to break my factory set down just to remove the sensors and then also have to break down my new set so I just had them put new ones in when I ordered them.
