Default Tire Valve Stem Replacement

Hi, new to the forum, we just got our 2014 F150 SuperCab 4x4 last week. we will tow it behind a motorhome and have external TPMS sensors that screw on the valve stem. problem is they need metal stems and our new truck has rubber ones. my question is can the rubber stems just be replaced with steel ones or will we have to replace the entire sensor unit. thanks in advance for your help and I'm sure I will have other questions. so far love our first ford truck. thanks again bill

Bill my 2011 manual says Don't tow your truck, wreckers should use dollies or a flat bed. You might want to double check your truck. You should ask your tire supplier about the stems, I don't think you will have an issue

checked the book before buying and it tells you how to set it up for towing so that's why we got it. we like the looks of the ford over dodge any day. i'll check with my tire dealer on the stems, didn't know if I needed something special or not. thanks for helping out. we are still trying to figure all the features on the truck out for now. take care

Being curious, what does your manual say. Nothing in my manual besides don't tow.

in owner manual under towing, in recreational towing it lists it on page 208 in my book.
it has procedure for flat towing, turn key to on but don't start, put in neutral, turn from 2H TO 4L 5 times in 7seconds and you'll see in display, Neutral Tow Enabled, Leave transmission in neutral, turn key to off and leave in ign. then just lock doors and tow. I had checked on the FMCA listing of tow vehicles before hand. friend has a 2010 F150 that he tows but had to get a Remco driveshaft disconnect to use before towing but in 2011 they changed to where you can tow them without any mods to truck. hope this helps.

That's interestingly manual doesn't mention anything about flat towing, will have to research it.

Just a follow up. I double checked my 2011 manual and tried your instructions manual says can be towed with wheels on the ground only if you have a manual four wheel drive lockout, which our trucks don't have. So it's dollies or flat beds for our 4x4 2011 trucks.

rubber valve stems are not replaceable- u would need to replace whole TPMS.
does the ends just screw on the valves ? don't understand why u cant just
screw onto rubber ones (not familiar with these things) ?

got them replaced with metal ones today, tire shop had metal stems an just had to take out one screw, change stems out and put screw back in and inflate tire. had to go to metal ones because of the weight of the sensors could cause rubber stems to fatigue from constant movement at highway speeds. thanks for responding. bill
