Default Tire Talk

LOL, A.n.o.t.h.e.r. tire opinion request.
I have researched, read all or most of the posts I could find and narrowed my choices down to 3-4 choices and would like to share them with you. I know asking people opinions here is hard as all of us like our trucks in a different way. I found that depending where you are in North America, people dress up their trucks in different way. Guys more south like them real high and huge tires, other like them nice and low with bigger wheels but smaller tires, some with chrome, some with out. This is what makes this place fun.
So, I know it’s hard to ask another member for his opinion when he doesn’t like the same thing as you, or likes a different style.
So here we go, I will tell you a bit of my needs and if you see something that resembles you ,then please chime in.
I think wheels and tires make the ride. I like to compare it to someone wearing a real expensive 3 piece suits with run down running shoes and dirty socks LOL!!
I have a 2012 appearance pak Fx4 Eco screw short box 3.73. I’m one of these guys that is always monitoring the fuel consumption (FLAME AWAY BOYS) so this affects my choice.
In my choices, I have tires that I love the look but “should” choose a different tire to please my “monitoring ;-)”
We have recently picked up a 5th wheel RV, so this needs to put in the consideration (did my math). I don’t off road but sure like the look. I also like the stance of the truck the way it is, but I did add Firestone airbags and when adding the minimum 5psi, the rear goes up another 1” make it a perky butt. Soooo, I ordered some Bilsteins 5100’s to set the front at the next mark up from original, just to balance it out as original.
From all the picture I saw, I want 275-65-20, but what tire ? They all offer something I want but not one has all. Since I will be hauling, I think an LT is a must.
I like the Michelin LTX M/S2. From what I read, I think it’s the best tire out there for my needs but offer no looks at all.
My second choice would be the BF Goodrich LT T/A KO. I think they look awesome and offer white lettering (flame away) but not sure It’s the right tire for application, don’t like noisy tire (and they will get noisy) but I have read so many good reviews on this forum. I have also considered the BF good rugged terrain.
The last one is the Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10. Since I live in Canada, I have Hankook winter Ipike and very satisfied with them.
So, what do you think? Do you see yourself in me?

First off your size choice, I think you will need to lift the front about 2.5" to fit those as they come in at around 34.5" tall. Especially if you get wheels that stick out a little more.

M/S2 like you said is the best tire hands down but doesn't offer the Offroad look you like. Another choice could the Michelin A/T2 not a super aggressive tire but a good compromise.

BFG T/A KO is a great tire as well it will only get noisy at the end of its life. I think you would be more than happy with it.

Another option is the Goodyear DuraTrac. Quiet tire, rides decent, best thing in snow next to a dedicated snow tire.

Take a look at the Cooper ATP as well it's a good "Bang for your buck" tire with high mileage warranty, good ride, etc.

The Hankook is a decent tire, I don't particularly care for it when I compare it to other tires I install every day. Just the way it's constructed it feels a lot flimsier. You would probably be happy with them though. They aren't bad, just not my first choice.

Hope that helps!

Michelin ltx at2 are good tires. My brother and I both run them on our 4x4 super crews. My brother just bought his 3rd set of at2's, both lasted around 60k miles. My father runs m/s2 on his 4x4 super crew and they ride great, but then again he doesn't care about looks.

Me and a few of my customers run the ms2 a few run the at2 other than that go cheap. Michelin in our area is the best bang for your buck. There are other tires that can match them for milage in the price range but to many fall short. Go all the way or go cheap. Michelin are the best here and have been for over thirty years.

I would disagree on the go cheap or all the way. There are many bang for your buck tires like coopers that come with 65k mile warranties compared to the Michelin 70k and at 2/3 or less the cost we sell them like hot cakes. They don't have problems meeting their mileage warranty either.

I think it's going to be hard to maintain your fuel consumption because of the need for an LT which will be more rotational mass when compared to P rated tires.

I gave the Nitto Terra Grapplers a try in a 33" and have been happy so far. They aren't too loud and they have performed great in all weather so far, no snow yet but we will see.

I know they probably won't get the milage that some of the others get but they are an aggressive looking AT and price is mid range. I got mine mounted and balanced for $1056 OTD.

Default Thanks guys

Yes, everybody opinion helps
The wheels will be the stock 20" that come with the appearance Pak.
So you thinks I might get some rub with one inch lift in the front?
The inner voice (LOL ;-)) says to go with the Michelin's, (must be their marketing working)
I have considered all the tires you guys mentioned. The Goodyear Duratrack generate a lot of positive feedback here on the forum, but unfortunately I dislike the sidewalls but does give killer off road look.
I agree with the Nitto and Coopers looking killer , (I really like the coopers) but have read it kills fuel consumption real bad and some guys have removed them!.
Yes, don't roll you eyes back... I know, it's a truck....LOL I agree that an LT tire will make a difference with the weight, but I want to be a safe as possible for my family..

I will also give Coopers a vote. I have the AT3 in 10 ply. They have effected my fuel mileage by about 1 on the highway but they are a much better tire and I no longer have to worry about flats. There wear pattern has been good and feel that overall they are a great tire. You can't go wrong with any of your choices however.

You do not have to lift front 2.5" to run a 34" tire.I ran toyo at2's 275/65/20 on stock height for 3000 mi before lifting front .75 on bilstein 5100's. Now am running raptor wheels and 315/70/17 cooper at3's on same setting and they are 34.4 inch tires with no rubbing. Agree w/earlier post coopers are nice.

MS/2's for me when these Pirelli's need replacing. If you need a more agressive tread go with the AT/2's. Either way there are Michelins and then theres everyone else. You get what you pay for. JMHO!!
