Default Tire chains

Which wheel/tires does Ford say that snow chains can be used with?

Can I use them with P265/60R18 or P275/65R18?

Thanks

This is from 2010 owner's manual:

Note: Do not place chains on the following tires sizes:

P265/60R18, P275/65R18, LT275/70R17, LT275/65R18, LT315/70R17, P275/55R20, and P275/45R22.

And here is from the 2009:

P265/60R18, P275/65R18, LT275/70R17, LT275/65R18, P275/55R20, and P275/45R22.

Sorry don't have 2011 manual file but I am sure out there and or you buy new 2011?

Thanks

Thanks

I am going to buy a 2011 and wanted the chrome package but both of the tires listed that come with that package are on the "do not use chains" list. I guess that means you can't use the kind that have the steel cables either?

I am not expert on chains and would not want to answer your question directly, but here is one link (no pun) of at least one chain info site:

Good luck with new truck, when.

Thanks for the link. Gonna probably order an ecoboost in the next couple of weeks but can't decide on 2wd or 4x4. Not much snow or ice in Texas and I don't take it out in the pasture since the cows tend to bend it up. So I was thinking of saving the cost of 4wd since I rarely use it. Plus should get several mpg better with 2wd

One of the reasons I'm not getting the chrome package is because I wanted the 17" wheels so that I could continue to use my snow chains (i.e. swap out the OEM P265/70R17 tires with Toyo Open Country A/T LT265/70R17 tires).

In case you go with the chrome package (with larger wheels), then take a look at the product at the website below -- it's expensive, but I bet it would do an awesome job, and wouldn't violate the owner's manual / warranty:

Honestly, I like the 17" rims just as good anyway and don't much want the chrome wheels. I also prefer the 4 bar grill to the 8 bar one.
I might just skip the chrome package and buy after market running boards.

I am looking at a Supercab not sure about 4x4 or not yet but it lists 255/65R17 for 2wd and 265/70R17 for 4wd. So both are ok with chains?

There isn't any difference in payload between the 17" and 18" is there?

Yeah, those should be fine -- someone already quoted the 2009/2010 owner's manual -- below is from the 2011 version:

Note: Do not place chains on the following tires sizes: P265/60R18, P275/65R18, LT275/70R17, LT275/65R18, LT315/70R17, P275/55R20, and P275/45R22.
