Default Timing chain tensioner

Anyone had the timing chain tensioner replaced? 2011 f150 5.0. Just wondering cost? I think I've read 5.4 hours? Thank you

I havent priced it at a shop. But i did them in my 09 5.4 and it took me all day....my 2011 needs them now and looking at this 5.0 it looks to be a couple hour job at best. The guides and tensioners are really cheap for the 5.0 also.

I just dropped my truck off, I work on my truck myself but I wasn't comfortable tackling this job. From what I've read it's not terribly difficult but I don't have the time and I can't be without a truck for more than a few days. I'll keep you posted on the price when it's all said and done if your looking into having a shop do it. Kinda pissed only 59k miles and already having the motor dug apart but I love the truck so hopefully it isn't too expensive!

What indication led you to determine the tensioners were bad? Curious because I have a quick scraping sound on start-up, thinking its the timing chains.

Yea that's what mine sounds like.. It's like a metal scraping sound. It tends to be worse when the tuck is hot. I did a lot of research and seems trucks with a build date of 02/2011 and before have the issue. My friend was a ford tech told me to take the belt off and start the truck to determine if the sounds internal. Not 100% that's what it is but he's pretty certain. TSB 05-14 describes the noise and where to find it.

Yeah, not at all what mine does. Only happens on first startup after sitting for a while. Consecutive restarts there is no sound.

Yep, sounds like it might be the chain going slack and hitting the sides of the cover. Repair, or take the cover off and it wont hit it any more. Viola.

Yea it's getting fixed Monday. Figures since the powertrain warranty expired in June. Until then driving my dads spare truck 2005 f150 4.6 246k miles still runs perfect!
