It can be a big deal if you need to buy a $8,000 engine lol After warranty go nuts I've heard mixed reviews some claim it works like the fellows on here others not so much but I have seen quite a few people left high and dry with a blown engine or turbos(diesel/eco) and no warranty

Hang on there - how can you claim that the 5.0 is maxed out, when my truck has 360hp, yet FOMOCO runs them at 420hp in the Mustang GT, and 444hp in Boss tune, and those engines don't break, and are under warranty?

Wow really, blown Eco's? Not a single one on here, (due to a tuner) and this is pretty much the most popular F-150 site out there, plus I frequent a few others and have not heard of a single EB failure due to a tuner. Matter of fact the few blown EB's that are out there were completely stock and had very few miles on them, pointing to a defect from the factory rather than a long term engine issue.

Please point us towards the grave yard of tuned and blown Eco's, I might want some parts.

Well dino certainly could have pursued this a bit more civilly, however, what I think we want to know is where are all these blown Eco's?

In this day and age of social media and web forums I think it would be pretty common knowledge by now, especially here, if people were bricking EB's due to a hot or poor tune. I think both Ford and the tuners learned a lot with the 6.0 debacle and are being far more conservative with their tunes.

So, where do you work, or how do you have the knowledge of this? It would be beneficial to share this to the community so if a particular tune or tuner was to blame it could be investigated and fixed, or maybe you're just talking smack, just some facts would be nice.

Lastly, I would not put too much stock in the eningeers Ford has working for them. When one of them told me my shaking and shuddering truck is "normal", yet we drove an identical truck with the exception of color and it did not shudder and he had no explanation other than my truck is completely "normal." Not sure which Community College Ford is using to supply their engineering department, but they may want to look elsewhere.

So how many 2011 5.0l F150's with a tune that caused a warranty denial do you personally know of?

You're right not much credit can be given to ALL Ford engineers, and we've had at least one here at a dealer in Alberta and I've heard of a few others in Central Alberta from talking to other dealers. Most with Edge tunes I believe. BUT I do believe poor maintenance could have also played a roll in the failure so was it all the tune? maybe not but I'm still not willing to gamble my first new trucks engine on that. Thats all I was trying to say think long and hard and check with your dealer before you tune it before you go ahead. Some dealers even sell you the tuner and will warranty it ONLY if you buy it and have it installed there though

Oh ok, well lets break this down.

1. It appears as though you have no direct first hand, saw it with your own eyes knowledge of these supposed blown engines.

2. You are not certain of the exact tuner, so you just slandered the name of a tuner that may or may not have been used.

3. In the end, the tuner may have had nothing to do with the supposed blown engines because the owners did not maintain them.

So, in the end you were merely warning folks about the possible ramifications of running an aftermarket tuner and also your opinion of why you choose not to. This, of course, is totally cool and how forums work. However, you need not fabricate stories of Eco's turned into boat anchors due to running a tune.

Most folks thoroughly research, to the point of obsession, about these trucks, myself included. The topic of the tuner and risk/benefit has been beat to death.

The 5.0 in these trucks isnt "maxed out" at all,; it was deliberately detuned by ford in order to justify the ecoboost. You've got to remember that in the base 2013 stang that same 5.0 is pushing 60 extra horses, and thats not to mention the exact same 5.0 in the Boss Mustang.
