I am thinking of adding flat black hockey stripes on my black fx2 screw. Are they a big pain when you wax your truck? Also I was quoted $475 to add the stripes by a reputable shop here in Tulsa, is that a good deal?

I actually ended up taking the strips off because they scratched easy and I didn't like the fact that they had holes in them. If it were a solid stripe I might have liked it better but then it probably would have scratched more.

This is one of those loaded questions that will get you a ton of different opinions. So here is mine…

If you hand wax your truck then it might take a tad bit more time than the process normally would because you might want to slow down a bit to go around the stripe. That only applies if you don’t want to get wax on the stripe. (Waxing any type of decal is a huge debate in and of itself.) If you use a double action polisher (aka D/A) then the process will take more time. You won’t want to use the D/A anywhere near the stripe due to the potential for damaging the edges of the stripe (this applies to all decals frankly). Therefore you will be hand polishing at least the area around the stripe.

In the case of the factory stripe that has the wide center stripe surrounded by the thin stripe there is a gap between the two that needs to be detailed. Again, if you are of the mindset that prefers to not wax the stripe itself then this takes a bit of effort to deal with. Now if you plan on waxing everything, decals and all, this poses no challenge other that you will be doing the around and on the stripe by hand.

I love the stripe on mine. In my opinion that is part of what makes these trucks stand out and it’s worth every bit of extra effort to maintain. Also, I wanted to point out that the factory stripe doesn’t literally have “holes” in it. The factory stripe is solid vinyl (vinyl is being used loosely here as I don’t know the true material) but has translucent spots contained in the black portion of the stripe. These translucent spots allow the color of the vehicle to show through the stripe altering the appearance of the stripe a bit depending on what color is behind it. So we end up with a gray stripe on a white truck, a black stripe on black truck, etc. but all of the stripes that are applied are technically identical.

I use the ICE Synthetic Wax, polish and detailing spray with zero problems going over the entire stripe. Truck looks amazing. I wouldn't try a paste wax or use my DA though.

hand wash the truck with a mitt or something, DON'T use brushes on our vehicle/stripe. Brushes scratch everything.
Have Tux Black Paint still looks brand new. it takes longer put well worth it in the end. Plus I use the three bucket rule. rinse, rinse, soap. Which Is used to clean the wash mitt everytime I dunk it back into the soap to have a clean wash mitt. no dirt trapped to damage or mar the paint/decal.
I also use the Tech Wash 2.0 liquid about every 2-3 months. I use it on everything but the rubber and plastic. A non-abrasive wax should not damage the decal. A cleaner wax, polish, or paste will "MAYBE" I'm not going to try it and find out.

THE DECAL MAKES THIS TRUCK WHAT IT IS. I would get it. But I thaught the price was cheaper for it? Maybe it is the installation that is adding it up.

Thanks for all the replies. It's good to know that synthetic wax will not damage the stripes.

Yeah I thought $475 was a little steep to add the stripes. I want the small border on each side of the main stripe to be done in red like someone else has on this forum. By the time they did that it was going to be closer to $550.
