Default Third tail light leak. Silcone approved by Ford?

Hi everyone. I have a 2013 FX2 and about a year of ownership I noticed that the tail light was collecting condensation. So I took it into the dealer and they "fixed" it under warranty. I noticed that they must have used some type of sealant but wasn't quite sure. Well I ignored it but in the past week I had a light bulb go out, so I decided to go ahead and replace it and put a new gasket around it.

So today I go out to my truck and remove the screws and yes in fact they did use some type of silicone to adhere it to my truck. In fact I tried to use my bone tool to get the light assembly off and the lens cracked and I cut my hand.

I ended up calling the dealer to ask them if this would be covered under warranty and they said it would be up to the manager. Myself I'm not irritated that they sealed it but rather the amount they used that it would be greatly difficult for me to replace the bulb. When I asked if they could just replace it and seal around the lens, not on the gasket itself they stated that it would leak again.

SO my question is this Fords answer to the third tail light leak is to silicone the third tail light in? Am I SOL and have to buy an entire new light assembly?

Had mine done a few weeks ago. They changed the light, no silicone.

Well I'm curious to find out if they're going to replace the light and I haven't heard from the service manager yet. This isn't normal right?

I would never have let them silicone the fixture in like that. Its their fault it broke in my opinion. Just to change a bulb you got to go through this? I would stay on them. That is NOT an approved method to fix the leak. That is some lazy and cheap shortcut they did trying to get out of their responsibility of warrenty work. Give em hell!!!!!

The approved method from Ford is to replace the lamp assembly. No silicon of any kind.

Thanks guys I needed to hear that silicone wasn't the answer and that it was a shoddy job at that. I'll keep you updated on what transpires.

I see a guy selling replacement gaskets on ebay since ford only sells gasket with the light.
Anyone reading that's no longer under warranty it might be an option if you're leaking.

If the dealer gooped mine up like that I would not be too happy.
