There is a 2011 platinum for sale near me. The truck looks and sounds like a good deal until you look deeper. The thing that really threw me off was the navigation. It look like the system from the 2008 trucks. Then I looked up the Vin and it says it's an FX4. This truck is being sold by a Ford dealer. Anyone have any input on this a have attached a picture from the dealer.

Can't comment on the stereo other than it could be aftermarket. If it really was an FX4 at some point the prev owner went to a ton of work to make it look like a platinum, but in reality the dealer probably just listed the vin to another truck. Check their website and see if they have a used fx4 around with a platinum vin.

The head unit looks nothing like my brothers 2011 platinum. There are a lot of other distinguishing features in a platinum though. Seat stitching, accent lighting, heated rear seats, amp side steps, etc. Though I do want to say that his had a 120v outlet to the right of the head unit and not the cubby.

Also, I looked for many months for my f150 and it wasn't uncommon to see them registered as different things. I saw some registered as descriptive of the truck (i.e. super cab, etc) and then I saw many listed as FX4, Platinum, XLT, etc.

edit: I dug up the listing you posted. I'd say its definitely a platinum. and see the picture below, here's a picture of a 2011 headunit in a platinum.

^ this would be my bet. When. I purchase my 2011 FX4 it was on the dealer's site as a 2013. Turned out that the VIN and Pictures of two separate trucks had gotten mixed up.

That stereo is the Clarion DVD/Navtec system, although it was probably added after it was purchased. I have one in my 2009. Its supported by Sync My Ride.

They could have mixed up the pictures or gotten lazy and just took a new outside pic and used old interior pics from another similar truck they previously had. I have seen this done before.

Lazy dealer. IMO not worth looking at as they have already cheapened it, if a Ford dealer can't get it right look elsewhere. They have misrepresented this vehicle to attract buyers.

When I bought my truck the VIN/info didn't match the pictures that were on the dealer's website. Mine was actually better than the one they had listed. Dealers do this crap all the time. Most likely not on purpose, but they must not have anyone double checking the listings.
