Terra Grappler vs BFG Rugged Terrain
#11
I'm in the same spot as jjm1024...did all my research and decided on these two tires, and coincidentally, found this thread. I'd love to get a leveling kit before I buy new tires, but in all honesty, I don't feel like paying another 400 bucks for slightly bigger tires. So I'm just gonna purchase tires for my stock suspension. My Plat came with 275/55/20 Pirelli Scorpions and I am running for the hills to get away from them. Can anyone give me any input here? I'm looking at either of these two brands, either at stock size, or slightly bigger at 275/60/20. Any input on MPG with either tire, road hum, more aggressive look? anything! lol...anyways, I'm down in Houston so rain/flooding is an issue (not recently tho!)..keep the replies coming!

if you deal with snow on a regular basis, I am gonna say stay away from the BFG's. they dont have the siping that the nittos do. they are a great all around tire, and arent bad, perse, in the snow. but they arent what I would call good either. the Nittos appear to have a good bit more siping on them and threfore will do better in snow and rain.

This is fantastic, exactly the reply I was looking for PT!! All I need to hear is that you enjoy them lol..maybe I can find a way to compensate for the lost mileage..maybe new exhaust or air intake or somethin...somewhat of a noob, this is my first truck, so lifts, leveling kits, big a** tires, etc..ALL NEW TO ME lol...I can replace brakes, hoses, etc..everything else is foreign to me haha (except car audio, but even nowadays with all the computer systems, it's getting a lot harder to do that too!)
I just replaced my stock Pirelli Scorpions on my 2011 FX4 with a little bigger (about 1" I think) 275/60/20 Nitto TG's and THEY DO fit without rubbing and look MUCH better than the Pirellis in my opinion. At 70 road noise is probably a little more than the Pirellis but it isn't bad. Mileage is maybe down a little......haven't drove it enough to actually get a good number though.

I'm not saying I DID lose mileage for sure yet, it has been REALLY windy here and I haven't drove it much to actually keep track, I will PM you next week when I drive all week (450 miles) to work and let you know the results.

Looking at the tire you would think it would be bad in snow because of the lack of siping. But reviews say it performs wel in snow. Tracks straight even when cornering and doesn't slip. Only problem is black ice, it slips right before coming to a stop. If I find the review I'll post it.
Anyways, I think for me I'm leaning toward the BFGs Rugged Terrains, but the Nitto Terra Grapplers are still intriguing. Thanks for all the thoughts! Keep them coming. I would love to hear from real world winter driving experiences with both these tires.
Thanks again!

They are the P rated, the LT's are even taller by 1" so that would make them 2" taller than the stock Pirelli's. I just took this pic, I'm about 10 vodka's deep right now (work and other issues ) so I didn't really want to back er out of the garage.

I know you have narrowed it down to two but check out the Yokohama Geolander ats. I ran those on my 04 fX4 and loved them. Did awesome in the snow. They will be going on my 11 as soon as I wear out the Goodyears.
