I have put in 36.8 gallons before and the truck said I should of had 1.5 gallons left.
Thread here: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/36-gallon-tank-104735/

This has come up before and some have even put 38 gallons so they say. Do a search. But I have gone over 36 gal a couple of times.

I had the dealer check to see if any fuel came out since they were only a mile from the station and they said everything is dry and they didn't smell any gas?? So what do you guys think??? I know not to trust the information center anymore but have to wonder if the stations pumps are off? I doubt the tank is bigger than 36 gallons but maybe it is. I have over 12,000 miles on it and normally the info center and the amount it takes to kick off is really close so I don't know what's up? I can't help to think,,,, man I drove that thing here so either I did that on fumes or just how big is this damn tank?? Any body else been able to put over 36 gallons in before? I know I won't make that a habit as I really don't want to be sucking up any dirt into the injectors.
This surely can't be helping the performance of your EcoBoost.

I reset 1 trip meter every time I fill up out of habit. I always put more in than it says I used. Usually about 1-2 gallons more

I'd be willing to bet that the station's pumps are off and they are getting a few extra bucks every fill up. Is the certification sticker on the pump intact and sealed? Here in the Midwest every commercial pump is certified by a state agency to ensure it's accuracy.

mamonti ... So what do you guys think???
It's not a GOOD way to operate the vehicle.
  • gasoline cools the fuel pump when it's submerged it.
  • over-heated fuel pumps have reduced service life.
  • at that level, you're probably inducing some intermittent fuel starvation to the engine.
  • condensation in the fuel tank.
    etc., etc., etc..

If you have been using the factory autostart if you have one the counter for the hours and the fuel use will not increase when it's remote started.

I agree 100% and that is why I was surprised! I don't let it get that low so I really think I reset it. Most of the times I am at about 30 to 32 gallons and I do know that the pump is on the bottom so cooling isn't as bad as they use to be when the in tank pumps came out! I use to change them on a regular basis and they set high up on the assembly with a hose going to the bottom.

you got a huge gap in readings. I just filled mine up yesterday and the Fuel Used and Actual Fuel pumped in was off by 1.4 gallons. To me this is way to far off but I guess its better than your 4.5 gallons off.
