teamroper - is that a metal plate, or is it a plastic panel/liner?

Last night I removed the handle and bracket from our tailgate, and was thinking of getting a plastic liner from the non-handle taigate to cover everything, but was wondering about all of the holes. Is there a metal plate that covers everything before the liner goes on? I'm thinking of removing the step too since things get stuck in it also. Looks like that won't be too difficult and I could just get a cap to cover everything.

Has anyone removed the step too? We didn't like the step from the beginning...but it was on the 2010 F150 that we bought off the lot.

Anyone have a picture of the inside of their 2009-2010 F150 tailgate, with the liner removed that they could post? I'd appreciate seeing one.

Haven't removed it yet, weather's been pretty bad lately, but I'm pretty sure that the plastic cover has the access cover built on the back of the platic liner??? Don't know that for sure yet?

Thanks for replying. I'd appreciate it if you or anyone else can provide the answer. I'm hoping that a plastic liner will cover the access holes and be strong enough to support heavy objects without punching through. I'd sure like to see a picture of the inside of a factory, non-step tailgate. No luck so far.

You guys must be younger than me. I absolutely love this feature. Helps me with my back. Can't understand wanting to get rid of it.

To all of you that have removed the handle and replaced the plastic panel on your tailgate - was the replacement panel metal or plasitc? I've yet to hear. Sounds like metal since some have had spray coating applied, but when I checked with Ford a month or so ago - they quoted a plastic panel. Any pictures available of the inside of your tailgates after the swap-out was made? Thanks.

Default Line-x With Step

I had the same issue with trying to figure out what to do with the tailgate with the step. Well I had a great Line-x dealer that was able to take the plastic cover off the tail gate then linex around the edge outside of were the cover goes and then put the plastic cover back on. I had a hard time deciding on the color match or not I did decide on the black to make it match the plastic cover.

I can take some pictures of mine tomorrow in the light if you like to see what mine looks like with the line-x.
