Default Tailgate Ladder

Hey gang, this is mostly directed at the "older" crowd, but everyone with some knowledge on the subject is welcome to throw in their 2 cents. I've seen the tailgate ladders on-line but am wondering if anyone can design or knows of existing tailgate ladders that better enable access to the truck bed. The ones advertised are cheap and don't really help getting into the truck bed. I'm needing a swivel type tailgate mounted ladder that goes all the way to the ground and yet is secured by straps or whatever when not in use. Any designers out there could make some cash from me. Here's what I've seen on-line, but it just doesn't cut it, I'm looking for something that swivels out and then goes all the way down to the ground. Ok gang, I know I'm not alone here so lets get some ideas going.

The oem tailgate step works great, slides inside the tailgate when not in use. Even has a grab pole that folds to the tailgate. My old knees thank me every time I use it. then they also have the side steps that pop out when you want them, they bolt to the frame on either side of the bed in front of the rear wheels.

Adding it on to a truck without is pricey however. Have to buy the entire Tgate to get it and then you have to paint it to match, or find one in a salvage yard.

Thanks for the input buddy, I appreciate it. As you can identify with the knees issue, I'm really looking for something that swivels off the tailgate and extends to the ground at an angle that's easy to climb. I already know it's going to be bulkier than the standard tailgate ladder but I don't care. I'm hoping one of these younger smarter Ford owners can help me design something here. Man I love these forums!

I think this product fits all of your specifications. http://www.realtruck.com/westin-truc...e-ladder-step/

Not a bad price for what it appears to be and Westin is a known quality brand name.

Holy cow, that's what I've been looking for!! Man, I really love you guys! Price is not an issue and I am going to try this thing out and make a review for others here. Thanks again Rnlcomp!! I can't believe that didn't come up in my searches. Again, this is what I love about this forum.

XMP64, are you specifically looking for a ladder for a certain purpose other than just gaining access into the bed?
It's not my intent to diminish Comp's advice. That a nice piece, but speaking from the older crowd.
The ladder works great, it's just that I found that not having something to grab on to and pull yourself up, can be murder on the hips after a while, and I'm just 40.
I'm curious if the retractable bumper step is another option.
Just having the ability to grab the the bedside, makes a huge difference.
Thought I'd just throw out, option b. Good luck either way.

Yeah, I actually thought about constructing my own with collapible rails but would rather find something already available due to my lazyness. lol

oh, look at that, the hitch step company SEO guy signing in to revive a 1.5 year old thread!

"easyup / easydown" promoting a step-ladder... buddy, make an effort next time, I know you guys get paid big bucks to link seed, you can do better or, even better, sign up as a forum vendor!

like: "hey, I'm an older guy too and just came across that, you might wanna look at it" with a username like "65yolddudeinthehouse" or something...

I'm tempted to click to see exactly what you sell, but that would be giving in too easy, no?

Cool product, a little pricey (unless build quality is superb), but not at all what OP is looking for. Something I might consider though...

Lol I was gonna say something like that, but I see a lot of good vendor accounts here. Didn't want to burn any bridges in case he becomes a regular lol
