Default Tail gate hard to open

I have a 2014 f150 stx. For about the last year or so, i have been having issues with my tail gate opening. The handle works fine. It seems like the gate is heavy and you have to force it open. Any thoughts on where to start? I have removed and greased the mounting points.

When the torsion rod gets dirty it slows it down the door and probably speeds up rusting in there. Clean it up with WD-40. Assuming that's the problem, grease it with something like lithium grease when it's clean. If the problem isn't dirt, the rod may need adjusting.

I had the same problem with mine, so I sprayed the latches on the tailgate and it works great now.

Thanks for the replies. How do you adjust the torsion rod? I will be trying to work on it tomorrow. Thanks again for your help...

The rods are connected to the latch with plastic clips, at least on my 2010. Once you access the latch, you'll see the clips. Just pop them open and move the rod(s) inward a couple of threads and close the clips. You can get that tailgate to open with one or two fingers after adjusting.
