Sync2 to Sync3
Has anyone ever upgraded from Sync2 to Sync3 in a 2014 FX4? What issues did you have before the swap and what issue did you encounter after? I was curious since I have been having issues with my Sync2 lately and the latest update made it much worse.
Plenty of people here have done it, there are several here that will sell you all the parts already programmed to your VIN so it is a seamless upgrade. No real issues when done correctly. The programming is the hard part.
I just tackled this project about a month ago. No issues whatsoever, before or after.
do you like it more than the sync 2?
i only tested the sync 3 in a rental mustang and it used only apple maps. does it have it's own built in navigation as well or does it solely rely on your phone?

The newest version of Sync 3 also supports Android Auto so just make sure whichever version you are getting has it. Just like Sync 2 there are versions with and without Nav built in, the one without being quite a bit cheaper. I typically just use Waze on my phone for Nav and that app will work on Android Auto. I had a rental Explorer for over a week with it and loved it. Much more responsive, easier to use, etc. Definitely an upgrade.
Unless you plan on using apple car play or android auto, it really isn't worth the expense (to me) to upgrade. I had sync 3 in my 2017 that I sold for the 2014 and honestly there wasn't that much of a difference. Some nicer features for sure, quicker response time, but not worth it to me as I don't constantly mess around with my radio when driving besides switching stations/inputs (generally using the steering wheel controls) which sync 2 does pretty much the exact same way.

Mine does have the built in nav, but if you have apple carplay activated you can't use the built-in nav. You are forced to use the apple nav on your phone. Supposedly the Waze app is supposed to be added to the carplay options. Until that happens, the only carplay feature I use is the amazon music app. Can't comment on android auto as I don't have one.

It's definitely an upgrade from MFT sync2, but I only did it because I got one at a deal from a forum member. I would never have paid full price or even close to what some online stores or ebay is selling them for.
