Ford Sync 3.0's lovely Samantha robo-voice can now soothingly guide you to any destination you tell her, incorporating real-time traffic updates to help plan your trip. This is how it works:
As you can see, it's pretty easy; the system calls up your paired Bluetooth phone and transmits all the data the sytem needs over the voice channel. Destinations are spoken aloud and read by the system; our demo was using prepared presets, so we couldn't give the voice recognition a full shakedown, but after Sync knows where you're going, the process seems incredibly smooth.
Soon, Sync will be able to use your phone's data plan and get its fingers in any mobile apps programmed with support for Sync's open control API, but for now, this is a pretty appealing addition that lets you ditch a dedicated NAV. It will be in every car Ford makes by 2011.

This new software release, based on customer feedback, will improve Ford's 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report features. Now you can disable the '911 Assist is set to Off' speech reminder. If you choose to turn it off, a line of text reminding you that 911 Assist is disabled will continue to be shown on the radio display. In addition to the 911 Assist enhancement, the Auto Vehicle Health Report feature will now have a default setting of 'OFF'. Simply switch to 'ON' if you wish this report to be automatically generated.
Also contained in this release are improvements to USB and Bluetooth features and phone and media device support.
Please Read: This update will take up to 8 minutes to complete. Approximately 60 seconds after you begin the installation, you will receive an Installation Complete message. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR USB DRIVE OR TURN OFF YOUR VEHICLE. You must wait an additional 4-8 minutes until you hear a second Installation Complete message before you can remove your thumb drive. During this interval, while the update is loading, SYNC will not recognize your mobile phone or media device. Be sure to have your vehicle engine running throughout the entire installation process. After Installation- Bring your USB drive back to your computer to report the successful installation.

You guys gotta hate newbies....always resurrecting ancient threads.
I recently bought a 2009 XLT with Sync.
I registered on Syncmyride and it says I have version 2, and I know I can use a USB to actually check to see if the truck has version 2 or 2.1. I also think that 2.1 is a dealer update. Syncmyride says I'm due for a dealer update (2.1?)
BUT.....
I want to know if there is a way to know what version is installed by looking at any features or settings without going the USB route? Maybe if I go into the settings and select Factory Default, then I can tell by what 911/VHR defaults are?
