Sync Upgrade
May seem like a dumb question but what all does it take to upgrade from Sync in my 2010 FX4 to sync 2 from a 2015 XLT. Wondering if it’s going to be as big of a hassle as the Sync 2 to 3. Just wanting a touchscreen and my neighbor wrecked his so I’m swapping him parts. Lmk
Sync2 to Sync3 is very little hassle. Swap 2 pieces of hardware, buy one premade cable, program with forscan once. Sync to Sync2 is far more of a hassle, I believe. More modules than you'd expect would have to be swapped. I don't know exactly how many, never had a 09-12 truck myself. Also, you would need to change some connectors or maybe entire pieces of interior harness. With a donor truck that is far more reasonable cost-wise, but I think it would be somewhat exploratory as it hasn't been done too much. Also, 2010 did not have the same kind of BCM than 11-15 had, I'm not sure if that would be a big deal or just different programming in forscan.
And frankly, Sync2 sucks. That's why so many have swapped to Sync3.

For 2010-2011 for sure you will need new harnesses and modules to the point it's really not worth the trouble. You can gain the same functionality much easier and cheaper with and aftermarket system, and it can look as good if you do it right. I have a 2011 and wanted to go Sync 3 but ended up with a nice Kenwood digital media deck w/ Carplay etc. and it works very well.
