Default Sync MFT replacement?

Has anyone had their whole sync system/module replaced? I took my truck in to get its 3.8 system update and the service guy said a whole new system had been ordered and he will call when it comes in. In the meantime I'm driving around with a big black screen and no radio!

What's up with this? Can I expect a "newer" version of the system put into my truck? I.e. The 2015 version of sync? (Obviously not the new sync 3 - although that would be sweeeet)

You go in for a software update and they tell you they are ordering a whole new head unit? Did they brick it in some way doing the update? Did they give any explanation?

What ever happened to it - the '14 and '15 were identical systems - Sync 3 would never work or be a easy retrofit.

Sounds like someone screwed something up to me. Especially since there was no explanation... just "oh, we're ordering you a whole new system". Either way you get a new system! Although that has to be a lot of quiet time in the truck until then haha.

My GPS and clock went out on mine, when I took it in , they told me I would need a whole new unit, radio/GPS/climate control. $940 installed and "programmed"

From what I have read Sync 3 is not backward compatible. For 1 thing the screen is bigger so unless they mod the dash it's unlikely.
Wish it was available.

After driving around with no tunes and just the voices in my head I got to thinking about which unit will be put in my truck. The most recent (aka the 2015) version of sync 2 or would they try to source the version that was installed on my truck from 2013 (more buggy, less responsive touch, slower reaction, more unstable), but the service guy didn't know. Wishful thinking?
