Default Sync Lockpick - GPS Wire Necessary?

For anyone who has installed a Sync lockpick in their truck-- did you need to use the GPS disable wire (with the purple connectors on the ends)? From what I can tell, it just goes inline on the GPS signal wire and disables the GPS signal temporarily to fool the computer into thinking that you're not moving.

The instructions say it's only necessary on some vehicles-- and if I don't need to temporarily disable GPS while using the Nav then I would prefer not to.

I haven't purchased a Lockpick but have researched it and may do it in the future. However, I did download the installation instructions and dash removal video for my research and, I may be wrong, but I understood the instructions to state that you connect the GPS cable but then decide whether you need to disable GPS during the setup process.
If that is the case, I would suggest you simply choose the option to not disable GPS and see it it works, if it doesn't then go back into setup and select the option.
Good luck
