Angry sunroof

Well it happened to me, the sunroof broke! I have a 2012 f-150 FX4 that has 40,000 miles. Always garage I even lubricate the rails annually, its rarely opened. But last Thursday I opened it, it wont closed, the motor still works, but it wont go all the way. So i took it get fix, bad news is, it will cost $1200 for the part and $800 to install. So i decided to just have it close and disconnect the motor. I rather use the $2000 for something else. It sucks though. But it could have been worst.

Go to sunroofdoctor.com, order the parts and fix it yourself. Lots of YouTube vids on the process. Parts are a couple hundred biz if I recall.

I just fixed mine a couple days ago. The video I posted shows you exactly how to do everything. It isn't a hard process, just time consuming. I used the sunroof doctor for parts. I think it was around $120.

I ran out of time though and it's currently 2 degrees outside so my truck is still apart on the inside and it's too cold to put it back together lol.

Also $1200 for the part? WTF?

If you didn't hit anything and it just broke, than all you need is the repair kit (just checked, it's $109) http://sunroofdoctor.3dcartstores.co...2014_c_41.html

I HIGHLY doubt anything is broken besides lift arms, cam brackets, or trough guides. My sunroof was hit in a parking garage closed and only those broke, not the whole assembly. There is no way your whole sunroof assembly broke from simple use.

The dealer is taking you for a ride.

Dealerships will not repair the track assembly, they will only replace the entire unit....that's why $1200.

exactly! they wont replaced a part. they will change everything. According to them, the reason why they have to charge me that much on labor is, the back window needs to be taken out of the way so they can remove the whole sunroof.

You of course know the rear window does not need to come out. Do they just make this **** up on the fly or what?

I just saw the video. It looks pretty simple, but removing all that panel scares me. I am afraid that i would brake all the tabs and spend more money.

The panels come out pretty easy, and don't worry about breaking the tabs. Steady firm pressure until one pulls out the rest are easy after that.

The only issues I've seen with removing Ford's interior panel are the sill plates. The metal clips stay on the metal piece and you have to transfer them back on the plastic part before reinstalling. Not as issue really, but you need to pay attention to that.
