Default Stuck Gear Shift

Please help!! The gear shift on my 2011 Platinum refused to shift from park to reverse. I tried a few times to get it to shift. Didn't work. 2 hours later, I tried again but this time truck is dead. Left it alone for an hour. Now the lights turn on, running boards work, Windows roll up and down but won't do anything else. What is wrong with my truck. Any advice?? I've got extended warranty but trying all other options before taking it to a dealership.

i think it's in the manual. there is a little square by the shifter, lift it off with a screwdriver / pin / whatever, and there should be a tab underneath.
Push the tab and shift out of P, something along these lines... or maybe I'm dreaming, I dont know..

Does the shift lever move freely? If so check the linkage and see if it has slipped off. I did this to my old s-10 while playing in the snow and had to crawl under it to put it back on.

If it doesn't move, then like others have said.... are you stepping on the brake?
