...Excel files for documenting and scan receipts. FYI, if your a self maintenance guy like myself, scan the receipts. The stuff they use for receipt ink today only lasts about a year if your lucky. Most auto-parts stores only retain 2 years of records of your purchase. This has saved me several times...

On a secondary level, I print and save everything in a file as back up. Having all records and receipts will help you in the end when you sell too, I was always impressed by this when I went to buy a used vehicle.

+1 on the ink and paper that is used today. In fact, a lot of it is thermal paper which doesn't hold up over time. Best bet is to scan the document and place in the "electronic" file cabinet and have multiple backups. I only print something if it's needed.

I use aCar as well. It is a great app for keeping tabs on all expenses and such. It is also interesting to look at the MPG graphs, fuel prices over time, etc.

I still keep any reciepts in the glovebox.

That's all I do. I'm too lazy to scan, sort, make excel files etc.

I also don't keep track of expenses....really don't want to be reminded how much I spend on my vehicles.
