this is an AWESOME idea ....if you want to keep replacing the bulbs every 8-10 months! all these super bright hallogens have a really short work life! so figure paying $80 every 8 months....sounds like a deal to me...a deal for the ppl selling them to you

do it right hte first time....

Spyder projectors are HID bulb ready. They have a nice pretty clean cutoff with HID.

Anzos (not sure about F150, I had a few sets in my Acuras)
Were NOT okay with HID, dim light, no cutoff line, all messed up.

Hope this helps

Can anybody else confirm Spyder's are HID ready? An if so, what is the best HID, retrofit?

I used a set of 5000k 35w units from the retrofit source in the low beam projector on the spyder units. The low beams are projectors and are made to handle the HID bulbs. Left the high beams alone, HIDs are more than enough on the low beams. D2S is the current standard for HID bulbs, they will work in the spyder units. You need to order a kit for a H1 bulb. This way, you will get the wiring connectors to hook up to the spyder harness without splicing anything. This is what I used in mine and they look awesome. The retrofit source is a little pricey, but trust me, their items are top quality.
As far as the CCFL halos, they are NOT plug and play. They come with little ballasts that must be wired and spliced into your factory harness. If you bought the units with the LEDs and the Halos, they have to be spliced in as well. Not sure if it would take 1 1/2 hours, but if someone wanted to do a nice job and fabricate a harness, it's possible.
One last note, it may have taken the installer a while to aim your lights. If there is one bad thing about the Spyders, they suck when you have to aim them. If they are not aimed right, your light output will suck regardless of regular or HID bulbs. If you are still confused, drop me a PM.

Both myself and this guy have done it. Does work

As long as the cutoff is still there, its correct. HID run cooler so housing wise/melting is not an issue.

Its bulb length

Cheers

Spyder rep told me you can go 55 HIDs in low beam, and 35 in high. Anything higher than that will burn lense. Sound about right to you guys?

And what brand?

Ok, so I see the points about H1 extreme bulbs burning out quickly. So I gotta go HID. I'm thinking Retro-solutions or Retrofit D2S bulbs. Question: Retro-solutions offers caps to block light at the top of the bulbs. You all have a recommendation either way on that?

I would assume the caps are for people using in non projector housings. I wouldn't think you need capped.

Per Retro Solutions, I need an entire HID kit. Love the headlight halo look but this is getting to be more costly than anticipated just for a set of lights! I need to save up for rims, tires, and lift or level still! Ugh. Here is what they said:

"We will gladly help you get a setup for your Spyder lights and improve your output! For these setups the ballast are needed unfortunately as the only ballast on those would be to power the CCFL halos that operate much much differently. So the entire kit is needed for proper function/setup."
