Spyder Headlight LED conversion kit
I have a 2009 Lariat and purchased these a couple weeks ago and have been reading all the related posts as there are plenty, so I apologize for beating this topic to death. I have searched for someone that has this set up and also purchased the G7S, or G8 LED conversion kit and their review. I considered the HID conversion, but Spyder rep said they would melt the housing. Anyway the route I decided to go and just hoping someone has the set up below that can tell me their experience. Thank you for the help or feedback.

Here is the conversion kit that I'm planning on purchasing:

I also purchased the Spyder LED fogs here:

I don't have the u bar spyders but I do have the dual spyders. I converted them to leds. It works really good. There are a lot of different opinions on this. I would suggest researching putcos as they are very high quality and definitely make a huge difference over the garbage lighting that comes with the spyders. You will be happy with them.
Get ready for some crap output! Realistically the only way to get decent output out of these is to retrofit, which is easy as pie with these lights since they're easy to open and it all just bolts right up.
The weak point is not the light source (which, a good halogen would outperform an LED setup in those projectors any day), it's the projector itself.

I am surprised to here that. I actually have leds in the projectors right now and the output is phenomenal. Leaps beyond the any halogen I have ever run. I'm not saying hids aren't awesome they are. They may even be brighter, but in my opinion, there is no way any lighting comes close the transparency and clean look of a properly installed led setup. Especially through a projecter. It is difficult to find the right kind to use, but I am trying to tell this guy who wants leds what to get so he will be happy with the setup he wants which is leds. HOWEVER, if you you want a super bright setup and don't mind retrofitting, hids are a sure way to go. My buddy did it. He said it wasn't difficult at all, and they looked good.
Thank you for the feedback. It's a bit confusing, and I'm still not sure if those that have done the HID conversion with the spyder lights used the spyder halogen or the spyder HID...from their site since my truck came stock with halogen lights, I purchased the halogen spyder thinking I could do the HID conversion using TRS ballast, harness, etc...spyder says you cannot do that so if I decided to go HID I would have to send those back, and purchase the HID version of what I have, yes? Giving me a headache, which is why I figured I would just purchase the LED conversion kit Spyder sells and hope for better than stock. Thanks
I wouldn't get anything that spyder sells as far as lighting goes. I will let the other guy chime in as I have followed some his lighting threads in the past and he seems to know his stuff. But, for now. The only info I can't give you is no. You do not need need to return your spyder head lights. It should be a direct swap with minor modifications. Like he said just swapping out the whole projecter for another equipped for hid. There are many routes but everyone who goes hid always talks about the Mormito mini h1's. I have never heard of any housings melting. Spyder co. Is just covering there butts.

Not saying that is the case with your setup, since I haven't seen your output, but talk to anybody who builds headlights professionally and they'll tell you LEDs don't belong in halogen or HID housings.

people have a tendencies to think output is better than it actually is with LEDs. They see bright white light scattered over the entire beam and think that it's better, but in actuality you want your light output focused right in the middle so that you're able to see distance and the light isn't focused in the foreground causing your eyes to focus on the wrong part of the road. They see the immediate foreground light up like a Christmas tree and don't realize you don't really want light there and don't notice their distance lighting has diminished.

True. It's not as bad as the lightbars, which are all over trucks up here, and do nothing but spray blinding light at oncoming traffic. I've come to hate those lightbars, if people insist on driving with those damn things. I ordered some LED fogs a while back, and drove them one night before pulling them out and putting some ZXE's in to get the usable light back and stop blinding people.
Yea you are right. In most cases. Here is what I found before i added my new headlights. The spyders low beam is a projecter lense with a halogen bulb in it. The light output was the same as my stock halogen fx4's if not worse. Putco sells silverlux pros especially for projecter housings. Instead of doing any real retrofitting I swapped them out with this specific bulb. All I know is the light output is really good, I'm not trying to argue that all led setups work great as I do not know. There is no way in hell I would drive an eye blinder down the highway. I did the all the testing, checked and double checked. All I can do is tell you guys what I know and what I see as I am only trying to shed light for people who ask the questions about leds and how to properly install the right bulbs for the right housings, if they so choose. This system works fine and does not heat up the housing at all. That is what the op was hoping for so that is why I chimed in. Hids Seem super legit and I like they way they look too, so the op should go that route if that's what he ends up liking. They were not an option for me as the high beam on dual headlights is separate and switching from lows to highs would be too dangerous for me bc of having to wait for the hid's to slowly turn on when switching back from the highs, so I went the led route and am very happy with the outcome. It has been a few months driving in California traffic and everything is A ok. I have tried finding glare and cannot at any angle which tells me that the projectors are doing there job. The pattern is even and yes pictures will come when I have some time to take and post them. Also, it would be correct to say that the beam is wide on these, much wider than normal. The cutoff is straight on the lows and right where it should be. The highs are out of control crazy bright though. They are high beam silver lux pros so I new they would be retarded bright. Thats how I wanted my highs to be so it's all good.
Here is what I will say as I have learned something from all you hid guys. They are a safe true route to go from what I gather. Op, I would recommend going this route as I can't really say what other led bulbs will do in these housings. Most people wouldn't want to risk dropping a lot of coin for something they are not sure will work.
On another note,
Novakanes and venom bumper going on this Friday!!! So you will get see those along with the lighting pics!!!
