Default Speedometer not working, truck won't shift.

I have a 2011 5.0, supercab FX4 with 160k miles on it. Out of the blue yesterday the speedometer wouldn't work and the truck wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I turned it on and it did it when I tried leaving my friends cabin. Turned the truck off and back on with no luck. Then tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, again with no luck. It would shift just fine in manual mode, but the speedometer still wouldn't work. All other gauges work, including the RPM gauge. Shut the truck off and reset it several more times. One time I got to about 20 miles per hour and the speedometer came alive for a bit. Shut the truck off and it was back to problems. For a while the truck would work correctly, but it got stuck in third gear in automatic. I shut the truck off twice and when restarting it and shifting into drive the truck was still in third. The wrench symbol came on but went out before I could check it. Let it sit for a bit then I took it back to my friends cabin and it worked like normal. I was 2 hours from my house at a friend's cabin for the weekend, so he took me home and my truck is sitting up there. Anyone ever had this problem? Seems really strange. Any help or tips are appreciated. Not really sure where to start. This is the first problem I've had with this truck, so it's not the end of the world. Thanks for any help.

There is a warranty extension for the OSS in the leadframe (replaces the whole leadframe) for all/most 5.0 2011s, but I think it stipulates less than 150k miles. Yours sounds a little different, but similar to the known OSS problem. So, leadframe is probably the fix. Codes would help.

I had that replaced at a Ford dealership in early 2019. Looking at videos online it seems to be the lead frame. I have my original recall letter from ford. It said it will cover it up to 10 years old or 150k miles, but I already had it fixed by them once so hopefully they'll honor it. Going to call them and see what they'll do.

They will not cover it. They told me because they truck is out of the warranty period. I said that's ridiculous because they fixed the problem under warranty two years ago. I would understand if it was never done and my truck is just too old, but clearly their fix wasn't as good as they thought or I got a bad one. They quoted me $1800 for the fix. I'll be visiting an independent transmission shop. Very unhappy customer here.

the lead frame was a 1 time ford paid repair, after that it is only covered for a 12mo/12k mile warranty period.

and ouch on that price..that is stupid high

Just to be clear. You had a recall performed? Or you had the leadframe replaced? These are not the same thing.

You are correct. I didn't realize that. I had the recall fixed, not the lead frame. There is a local shop that has done all the fluid changes on the transmission, transfer case, and rear end for my truck. They quoted me $1000 to fix it. But the last few times I started the truck it hasn't been doing it. It runs and drives like it should.
