Default Speaker trouble

Hey I have a 2011 f150 xlt with a 3.7 engine. The other day both passenger and driver side speakers were crackling and popping and sound terrible to listen to. But this only happens when I am using the aux port, the am/fm radio works just fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be or how to fix it. Also my truck does not have any Bluetooth capabilities.

need to narrow down if its the aux port on the source, the head unit or a bad cable. If you can plug the same source device and cable into some other stereo and it works ok then it must be the head unit. Maybe jiggle it around a bit to simulate driving around

now today I have noticed less popping and cracking but the driver side has stopped working and it’s just the passenger side working unless I use normal radio. But the passenger speaker still sounds terrible and I tried a different phone but still the same result. I test the cord later

Could be dirty aux port. Turn the truck off, and use a cotton swab with a tiny amount of alcohol on it and insert into the aux port and turn it real good like you're trying to clean out your ear. LOL. The alcohol evaporates quickly so it shouldn't be an issue if you wait a few minutes and then try again. Open your doors and play music and see if it makes any difference with the doors open as well. A lot of times, the wiring in the rubber boot where the wires pass from the cab to the door can get damaged over time.

Have had issues with aux cables causing noise. Like the others have said clean it. Make sure it hasn’t loosened in the dash. Wiggle the jack/plug while it’s in use to see if you can cause the noise. Get a high quality cable. Make sure it fits nice and snug in the dash jack. 90 degree plugs seem to work better and get hit less while moving around in the truck. If you haven’t blown out the speakers with the noise it’ll be ok. Aftermarket Speakers are a great inexpensive upgrade anyway.
