Speaker questions
Reporting in... I did get the Pioneer Premier TS-D802P speakers (2 pair). It was an early Xmas present (and so was my Bestop bed step, I was good this year). Speakers fit in both front and rear, no problem (contrary to what Crutchfield says). It's good to install with windows down and make sure the wires are well away from the window movement. Yeah, I learned this the hard way with the first speaker. I didn't go with an amp, I am driving them from the stock deck. Overall, I am really happy with them. I am happy with the bass (which is a problem with most 6x8s), and the sound is neutral, accurate, and loud enough for me. Sound is best with Sync. I am just using a USB thumb drive with 192Kbps .wma files and it sounds great. Sound is accurate with sirius, but limited by the quality of the broadcast Most music on sirius is OK but not great. The CD seems off, like the DAC is boosting high bass tones, I don't like it. So, sync for best quality and sirius for the variety and I'm set. Oh, and I also give the bestop bed step two thumbs up. Thats all for now, have a good turkey day.
How about the JBL GTO938 to replace stock speakers? Any opinions?
You will not be disappointed by the JBLs.

Buy them off of ebay wholesale for $60 instead of $200 from Crutchfield, its worth it.

From: After 20 + years in the foothills of the Sierras; I am now [back] in the south-end of Sunny SoCal!
I found it interesting that they show 6X8 for both front and rear; looking at the grills (only) the fronts give the impression of being a lot larger than the rear speakers?
Next the installation guide in Crutchfield is very generic; do those decorative grills just pop off from the front and then just snap back on, or do you have to pull the whole damn door panel off to access the speakers for a change-out on our '09/'10 trucks?
I have never really focused on or thought about a speaker up-grade until just recently.
NorCal, the front and rear are the same size (6x8). The grills don't really come off, although they would if the proper leverage was applied
but you might ruin them. They have tabs on the back side that are folded into slots in the plastic surround. My advice is don't try it...
The door panels are not too bad to get off. There are some good instructions here: http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=71819. I did the first one by hand, and then used a cordless drill on the rest to speed up the process. The bolt behind the door handle is a good one for the drill... it is in firm and takes a lot of turns to get out.
