So... with my minimal mechanical skills I completed the led blinker mod. This means I have ascended into manhood... lets take a moment...

well, I ran into a problem. I ended up breaking one of the reflector tabs so I superglued the tab back on. well, somehow the superglue managed to get all of the black headlight. I thought to myself, "This will not do!". off to the store i went. I purchased somre goo gone and dabbed it on the glue then used a different towel to attempt to remove it.



so... I did this... how do i fix it? do i have to buy new mirrors now or how do I bring black that black!??! I know the option is to buy those chrome caps and while I have gone with a chrome scheme on my blue jeans metallic, I find those caps to be atrocious!

If it (mirror cap) was flat black before the goof-up, I'd try to spray them with plasti-dip. If it turns out bad, just peel it off.

 

just either plasti dip, or rattle can black..

 

You have 2 simple and cheap options. You can try some Mothers Back to Black (or some other plastic trim restorer) to try to bring back some of the black. Not sure if this would work or not, and even if it does, you would probably have to reapply it every couple of days to mask the faded spots.

The other option would be to plastidip your mirrors. This is a spray-on rubberized coating that guys use to black things out. It comes in a rattle can at your local Ace, and all you do is spray it on. It will leave you a flat or matte finish, and the coating is easily removable and peels off 100% if you are unhappy.

If you are really OCD and the mirror will drive you nuts and eat at you every time you walk up to the truck, then you better try to find a new (or new used) set. Keep an eye on the parts for sale section. Guys are swapping out their side mirrors pretty frequently.

 

I have no experience with plastidip but will try it. hopefully it gives me to look i want. what a stupid thing to do. lesson learned.

 

Since you're only doing one mirror or maybe both, so they match. I'd practice on something else first like a piece of scrap metal lying around. That way you get the hang of how it sprays, even coats, etc. Go very light with each pass until a nice thick layer buils up. Also tape off your blinker and make a hood out of newspaper around your mirror so you don't over-spray your truck. Youtube has a bunch of plasti-dip videos. After watching a few vids you'll see how easy it is.

 

There is black mirror spray can paint you can buy that matches it perfectly with a coat or 2. Its just called mirror paint in automotive.

 

Try some plastic scratch remover and buff it.

 

I broke one of my Reflector tabs when doing the mod as well, I just used a Tiny screw to hold in that side of the reflector! That was before I decided I didn't like the look of the Orange reflectors and went with the Anzo's!

Like OP suggested, try taking the mirror off and rattle caning the black plastic...
