What I thought I would do is get a spare shaft from a yard. With it on the truck, tape around where the male end meets the female end. Take the shaft out. On the male end, grind out a channel in the center between the tape and the end. Need to determine the width to allow grease flow, accurate zerk placement and not too big to weaken the joint. Measure between the tape and the center of the channel. Drill and install a zerk that distance from the female end.
Then again - If you search on the web, you can find after market shafts with all serviceable & replaceable parts for under $500. Make sure the center bearing is also replaceable. Since these are under $500, I suspect a yard shaft should be half that. I also wonder though, if the aftermarket shaft slides freely, will still Clonk ???
