Slip yoke fix, How long does it last?
Hi there,
I had the drive shaft slip yoke fix done in my truck about 5k miles ago. It is now making the same bump. How long should this fix normally last? I mean, i want to have a good running truck but having to fix that part every 5k miles seems a bit excessive.
Thanks,
Sean

I saw a YouTube video about this and the guy breifly mention something about cutting a racket ball and putting it in the yoke? He didn't go into any detail and I didn't look into it yet. Anyone know about this?

I used to grease mine every oil change on my duramax.

I had mine done at the dealership a couple weeks ago. It has made a huge difference. I had the thump on every start and stop since I bought the truck (new to me 2012 XLT SCREW with 100k in Jan 2016). All I can say is it is like a different vehicle. It's a pleasure to drive. You begin to expect and brace for the thump that isn't there anymore. Wish I had had it done in Jan.
The dealership told me they took it apart, cleaned out the old grease (factory) and repacked it with their "blue" grease and it should be fine from now on. They also said in 3 years of doing this they've never had one come back for a repeat. I remain hopeful. But I tend to be optimistic about most of life anyway.

A factor with this issues is temperature. I notice it gets worse when temp is below 50 degrees. I suspect the metal contracts, it tightens, then pushes the grease out even more. I live in Pennsylvania. Temp swings in the spring can be 40 degrees. I definitely notice a difference when it gets cold.
