The reason i'm after the 6.5 is I mountain bike with some friends and have 3 - 4 bikes in the back of my current rig several times a year, If I went 5.5 I'd have to get a hitch rack setup of some sort. Not that big of a deal I suppose just seems silly to have a truck and need the same setup as civic.

Do you feel the 3.73's hurt the economy dave? Up here its pretty flat land.

Can't go wrong with Ruby Red Metallic, it's a $400 option but worth it.

The acceleration shudder you are describing is relegated to the EcoBoost trucks, specifically the 2011 and early 2012 MY builds with the 157" WB. The EB creates far greater TQ at lower RPM than the 5.0 hence the shudder occurring during take off, so if you're sold on the 5.0, you will be fine from this issue with any MY and any wheelbase.

I have the 157" WB and to mountain bike. I find it far easier to load my bikes on to a hitch mounted carrier to and from the trails.

Elbows up, go for the Ford! And the 6.5 bed! I was a GM guy for years till I bought my first Ford........ I'll never go back unless it's for a Vette! You'll love the F150! I only have 4000 miles on mine so far & love it.

I had a 11 screw 5.0 and loved it. 40000 miles and zero problems when I traded on my current 13 screw Eco 8 months ago. 14000 miles on it and zero problems. My Eco is positively the best running and driving truck I have ever owned. I have owned Chevys in past and will never go back, have 2 friends now with newer silverados and they can't believe how much better my Eco runs and drives.

Now your talking. You won't be disappointed.

BTW, the 3.73 gears will use a bit more gas due to the higher rpm's the engine will be turning. If mountain bikes are what you haul, and you are not towing greater weights the 3.55 gears will suit you fine.

If you spend a good deal of time on any truck forum, be they F150s, Silverados, or Tundras, they will all start to look like the worst trucks ever made! Any internet forum has a disproportional amount of people with problems, versus those who don't, since the trouble-free owners generally have nothing much to talk about!

With that said, a new 5.0 FX4 is light years beyond your current rig (in my humble estimation), and you won't regret it. If you go that route, let me also recommend aftermarket exhaust. You'll be glad you did.

For what he pulls even the 3.31 gear like I have is plenty, I have no problem pulling my 16' ski boat.
