they are all great trucks until they break down then we go on forums and complain instead of being a normal person and getting it fixed

there is about a bazillion F150's around. Most threads are started by the small minority who have troubles.

Very few threads proclaiming the trouble free trucks.

Buy a Ford and don't over think it

If you really want to scare yourself, check out the Silverado or GMC pickup forums. Engine and transmission problems are rampant there, along with interior and body integrity issues.
There IS a reason that the F 150 continues to be the best selling truck in the world for what --- 35 years in a row now?

check out ALLDATA.COM and look at the problems with the GM trucks. the same problems go back to the early 2000's they never fix the problems just follow to the next year. rearend problems, transmission, door gaskets, drive shafts mainly front end. do not trust their cylinder deactivation.

Ford sold 650,000 trucks last year. Maybe 2000 had a major problem. And some of those were probably operator error related anyways. That's a 0.3 percent failure rate. That's not an official number or anything, just a ballpark guess

Go buy one already!

Mine's had it's fair share of non-driveline related problems. Would that stop me from getting another one in a heartbeat? HELL NO. Best performing truck out there, period.

Lifelong GM guy here, now I own my 1st F-150 and I am a Supporting Forum Member(should say Something)... Mine had the intercooler issue on my Ecoboost, but has run great since the TSB was performed! 27,000 less than a yr old going strong! All brands have their issues, no matter what! Good luck with your choice...

Are they all horrible and spend more time in the shop looking for solutions to the driveline shakes or are these a few isolated cases?

I like the looks of the ford and test drive was great but I wanted to do some research before I offed my truck and landed here

Fwiw the only towing I will be doing is a 17' bass boat otherwise just used as a car.

Thanks!
For what it's worth the two piece driveshaft for the truck your looking at sells for not much more than a u joint for the older ones by the time you change it. If your real worried get 5.5 box and you get the one piece shaft if it only going to be a car.

The sky is not falling. My 2012 FX4 with the 5.0 has been flawless for almost 17,000 miles. I have the 3.73's. Average daily mpg is high 15's and low 16's. that's in the hills of WV. Best mpg was on a 200 mile stretch last year coming home from a Myrtle Beach vacation. 21.9 mpg. Actually on vacation here again now (MB) in the wife's 08 Expy. Even with 3.31 gears the BEST it has seen has been 20 mpg. It usually hovers in the mid 14's back home. Engine wise, the 5.0 has been incredible. Always has power. Hardly ever downshifts in my daily drive where the Expy downshifts on any incline. Ford has some great drive trains right now. Don't hesitate. As for the truck itself besides the power train, the cab is HUGE, comfortable seats, brakes are incredible, and the f150 has a massive aftermarket to customize. I would recommend 3.73's if you go 5.0. Good luck.
