I have the Craven Stubby. Looks really nice on the truck. However, I live about 35 miles outside of a big city and the reception absolutely sucks with the Stubby, even AM.
It is not a complete waste: if I'm taking the truck through a car wash (winter only), I put the Stubby on so that my real antenna doesn't get bent.
That'd just my experience. Maybe it'd be better if I lived closer to town.

My last suggestion.... If you are def going to buy a shorter antenna, than you will probably have no use for your factory one anymore, right? So try cutting it down to whatever height you want (18", 16",12", whatever) and try it out for a few days 1st. You may be surprised how well it still works. Unless your set on a billet type or something totally different.

I'm in San Antonio and my stubby gets good reception. Haven't noticed a difference at all, but I'm usually within the city. I'm assuming as I get closer to the outskirts, that may change...

I'm perfectly happy with my Craven too but like others have said, I only listen to Sirius and MP3's so radio reception was never a concern for me. If radio is a big deal for you, best just keep it stock.
