Default Shifting manually ??

Anyone shift the transmission manually during daily driving?? I've only used it a few times just to see how the buttons function.Might be useful for towing or engine braking in slippery conditions or for more "vigorous" acceleration.. ??

Would it be harder on the transmission to shift manually during everyday
driving ?

I played with it a bit but don't like the lag in response from the "pushing of the button"

I did use it in "Auto" mode to stay out of 5th gear two weekend ago while on the BlueRidge Pkwy in VA. Speed limit is 35 in most parts I was in and up and down a lot in elevation, it would shift into 5th and even 6th at times and then jump down to 3rd and shift up into 4th when entering the next hill. If I stopped it from going into 5th/6th it would hold 4th and engine brake a lot better.

^Great idea, we're heading to Skyline Drive this weekend and I'll give it a try. Thanks

I use it pretty regularly for down shifting when getting off the highway. Only 2K miles on this truck but I did my first break job at 93K miles on my last car with this method.

Tow/haul works similarly if you want engine braking.

I drove nearly the entire length of the Blue Ridge Pkwy this past July, almost hit a juvenile black bear cub that was running down the middle of the Pkwy. I was driving a honda accord and would have appreciated the functions of the select shift.

I bought my truck September 20 and have yet to play with the select shift, tow haul, or 4 wheel drive.

I use mine occasionally to help with break-in. Accelerate moderately hard in 3rd, then decelerate with it still in 3rd to load the rings from top AND bottom.

It's still controlled by the pcm and will not let you shift in such a way as to cause damage to the trans or engine.

As far as engine braking. I find that the tow haul mode brakes better than manually shifting bc it places the pcm in braking mode and closes the throtle body completely and kills the pulse width on the injectors and automatically transitions the fuel and down shift points to more smoothly downshift and brake.

I use it from time to time - and love it.

Problem is that I have to remember to shift when coming off a light. Some time I space out and forget to shift.

Does it automatically shift to the next gear at redline or does the rev limiter kick in?
