Default Sct canned vs custom for lightly modded

And I do mean very lightly modded. CAI and cat back SI/DO. The manual say for use of lightly modded. CAI and exhaust. So why the need to get a custom tune? It sounds like the canned tunes are basically set up for those little mods? If I don't have custom tunes and just running cans, am I running lean? Is there anyone out there that has ran the canned then got custom and could you tell a difference?

I personally thought the SCT canned tunes were good there were a few good modifiable options that aren't avail in the custom tunes I have.

Personally, I thought my 5Star 87 Octane Perf/Tow and 93 Octane Perf/Tow outperformed the "canned" tunes that came with my SCT tuner. I noticed better response in the throttle, better shifts, more power...just all around better.

Now when you guys say perf/tow. Did you get both, tow and performance? Or do you drive everyday on your tow tune? What makes the tow tune any better? Is it not the same as just getting performance tune and pushing the tow button?

5 star offers a great perf/tow tune. I thought the canned tune was just OK. After trying many different custom tunes I have settled on the 89 perf/tow tune. Truck all stock except a Volant CAI and Magna cat back.

That is just the name of 5Star's tune. I use it for everyday driving... here are the tunes 5Star offers for the 5.0L:

87 Octane Performance/Tow; 87 Economy
89 Octane Performance/Tow; 89 Economy
91 Octane Performance/Tow; 91 Economy
93 Octane Performance/Tow; 93 Economy

Same thing I have been thinking to myself. Others offer a completely separate " tow" tune...so does this mean every time I go to tow the boat, I'm switching tunes?

Custom tunes now have the options in there, but you have to do an update I believe to be able to see those options and of course have to have your custom tunes sent to you again.

MPT did that for me and you can now have those options in both the canned and custom.

Regardless of modification level, I would do custom tunes. Period. Hell if you buy from MPT, you get the custom tunes for FREE anyway. Win/Win.
